$100,000 Budget: US East Coast City .com Wanted

I am once again looking for a city .com domain name for an east coast city (east of the Mississippi). For the right name, my budget is up to $100,000, but it must fit in with my needs. This is the profile of the domain name I am looking to buy:

  • City of 100,000 people or more
  • .com Only
  • City must be on the East Coast of the US (prefer north east)
  • City name can not have Saint or Fort in at, as that can be confusing (St vs. Saint)
  • Must be the full and real name of the city
  • Must have some tourism
  • Household income must be at the US national average or above
  • Domain name must not have been publicly on the market (domain auction or forum or otherwise)

Please only send names that meet all of my requirements. Any other submissions will be deleted. There’s nothing wrong with other similar types of names, but I don’t want them for this project. My budget is up to $100,000 for a great name, but it obviously depends on the domain name.

  1. Curious why the “Domain name must not have been publicly on the market”?

    ***UPDATED BY ELLIOT***
I don’t want a name that’s been picked over and passed by others.

  2. jerseycity.com is a dead link – no clue as to price
not a tourism destination but it’s a hot town (proximity to nyc)
might be worth your time to chk out

  3. FairfaxCity.com is forsale, contact me for details if interested. Fairfax is the highest salary posted last year.

    Regards,
    Em

Fairfax is a city, but it’s not called “Fairfax City.”

  4. Don’t lock yourself into the population size. Palm Springs has 49,000 people and Laguna Beach only has 26,000. We’ve turned down high seven figures for PalmSprings.com.

Target the brand not the population.

While I agree 100%, I wanted to avoid receiving a ton of tiny city submissions. As far as I can tell, just about all destination-type city .com names are developed and wouldn’t be sold for $100k. I would make exceptions for great destinations.

  8. My cousin Gregory Goldstein and I own http://www.FtLauderdaleBeach.com and as you know, Florida is seeing a lot of attention due to the BP incident. There are other factors that make this name valueable as well. I would like to discuss with you a reasonable offer on your part for this name. Please feel free to email or call me at (954)663-4223.
    Kind Regards,
    Gabriel Falken

  9. We do. Here are the reasons why the name should get a significant amount of attention:
    1. BP Oil spill people are checking to see what travel destination places in Florida are effected
    2. City of Ft Lauderdale has it’s Centinnial May 2011
    3. State announced that it was moving it’s budget from the coasts that were shut down over to the coasts that were still operating which increases the budget being spent to market Ft Lauderdale Beach
    4. State announced that it was moving it’s budget from print over to the more cost efficient internet which increases the budget being spent to market Ft Lauderdale Beach.
    5. Waldorf Astoria is coming to Ft Lauderdale Beach soon http://inside-real-estate.com/williamkedersha/2010/05/20/ft-lauderdale-waldorf-astoria-moves-forward/
    6. Mondrian Hotel is coming to Ft Lauderdale Beach soon
    7. Schlitterbahn Development Group is putting in a water park “bringing a resort feel, and it will be the equivalent or better than Atlantis in the Bahamas,” said Jeff Henry with Schlitterbahn http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2010-06-15/travel/fl-water-park-stadium-20100615_1_water-park-developers-estimate-soccer-team
    8. Ft Lauderdale Beach already has the W Hotel, Ritz Carlton, Hilton, and Atlantic Hotels.
    9. No limit poker just became legal at the Seminole Casinos which includes the nearby Hard Rock gamingbiz.com/news/tag/seminole-casino/
    10. We have Bosch, James, and Wade
I’m sure I can find more reasons to add to the value. Truth is I have spent my time on the beach for the last year and a half and I can tell you that since the oil spill a lot of Florida Vacationers are experiencing Ft Lauderdale Beach for the 1st time. The visitors are quite suprised how grown up it has become. It no longer holds the spring break image that it used to have in the 60’s and 80’s. It’s more upscale, more professional and resort driven, and gives you the option of visiting South Beach or Boca Raton in only a 30 minute drive or less. The airport is only 10 minutes away. Travelers and Tourists spent $8.4 Billion last year.
If you have a fair price in mind let me know.
    Kind Regards,

  10. I live here. There is a big difference in the 2 and local people, even most travelers know that. If you are searching for a specific type of recreation you search Ft Lauderdale Beach.
I see where you are coming from and completely understand that naturally Ft Lauderdale would be more searched than Ft Lauderdale Beach, however, like you said it’s really about the branding and Ft Lauderdale Beach is the attraction. Would you not think that anyone searching to be on a beach for a vacation would search “Beach” vs. “City”. Or for that matter looking for a million dollar home with a place to keep their yacht? Honestly, what sort of value do you believe it holds? There are a lot of huge things going on down here.
I am going to develop it if you don’t want to buy it. Curious as to your professional opinion. I have a great idea to keep people engaged and brand the site. It also doesn’t hurt that I have been a marketing manager at several of the major night clubs here. My contacts make it worth it. However, if I can make a quick dollar to continue with my other business ventures I’d consider it.

  11. It’s got a “ft” in it. I have Lexington-MA.com – my guess you don’t want a hyphen, so I’m happy to develop it myself!

  12. Just to reiterate, I would only be interested in city .com names.
    @ Louise
You are right on both counts (FT/your name with a hyphen). I would make an exception for FtLauderdale.com though.
PS: I want to keep comments opened on this for the future, so please no more “I know you don’t want this, but I have xyz” because that’s sort of annoying to read and for people who have subscribed to comments 😉

  13. You mean, you don’t want it qualified by the two-letter state after the city? Like your domain, Lowell.com? That I didn’t realize. So many states have cities of the same name. That will be tough – best wishes!
