2011: Blog Traffic Up 26%

I am not someone that likes to gloat or brag, and that’s is the primary reason I don’t generally publish my sales in DNJournal nor do I write about anything related to how much money I earn. However, someone linked to my blog’s Compete chart in a comment on  Mike Berkens’ blog, and that anonymous coward said traffic was down 59% year over year.

I think TechCrunch put it best: “If You Cite Compete Or Alexa For Anything Besides Making Fun Of Them, You’re A Moron.”

For the sake of transparency, I am happy to share my year over year traffic numbers, with the matching Google Analytics screenshots. In 2010, my blog received a total of  460,110  Visits, which I think is pretty solid. In 2011, my blog’s traffic increased to 581,731 visits, an increase of 26%.

I also use Stat Counter to help verify traffic and because I like it’s interface. Stat Counter listed  607,299 visits to my blog in 2011 vs. 453,251 visits in 2010, which would indicate a 34% increase in traffic.

As for my business, 2011 was also pretty good. For comparison purposes only, 2011 ranked as my second highest income generating year since 2003.

  1. There is quality information on your blog. It’s valued in the industry, and you deserve every bit of your success, good job 🙂 Happy New Year and best wishes in your future endeavors.

  2. There’s a reason you are one of the top read blogs. You do a great job. I DO like to brag about things that are achieved from hard work and the success of your blog is a result. Thanks for sharing the numbers. I’ve never understood why people hide their traffic other than to hide their real numbers. It’s not bragging, it’s data.

  3. @ Poor Uncle

Thanks… I work quite a bit at making deals happen. It’s not easy to make a living in the domain business, but it’s rewarding for those who put the effort into it.

  5. Half the domainers early on got it right and half went broke.
At least it seemed that way. i was one of the ones that went broke. People lay it on thick to when your broke. That is the time you realize who your friends are.

I started again with around $1000 and made a nice comeback.
I found out most people are either full of hot air or just plain liars/scumbags. Makes you waste your time to counter his lie.
