$20/Day Parked Domain Name

I had never had a parked domain name earn more than $15 in a single day – until yesterday! The domain name (parked at Fabulous) only received 4 unique visitors yesterday, but it earned a total of just about $20. It received six clicks to reach that sum, but WOW!
Does anyone else have any stories like this – where a name gets between $1-5/day and all of a sudden it gets $20 for no extraordinary reason?

  1. I have seen some spikes myself on domains that had pretty consistent clicks for months. I was curious too, so I checked Google Trends and Google News and noticed that there had been some recent news story that broke with identical keywords as my domain.
In speculative domains where you are waiting for the mainstream news to pick up on a trend you caught whiff of months ago – it is an amazing feeling!
I would be interested to hear if your domain continues on this path.

  2. I have a .biz domain which fits the extension well and generates between $3.00 and $5.00 per click. Same thing you describe with several visitors per day creating the revenue. The increased visits seem to be related to all the media focus on rehab: Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, etc.

  3. Yeah, Kelly’s got it right from my perspective. I’ve got a couple of names like this. Trickle of traffic for months with no revenue to speak of and then out of the blue I’ll get a little bump in traffic and a disproportionate bump in revenue.
ps – I treat that revenue as found money and buy something I wouldn’t necessarily buy during other months. It’s random Christmas!

  4. Last month (Jan), out of the blue, a two-word generic .com of mine that I’ve owned for some years went from an average of a piddling 5 cents/day to…if you can believe this…$220 in one day (and now averaging over $30/day).

What happened? After some quick research, I discovered that this company had just launched both an infomercial (at least in the Los Angeles TV market; which I’ve seen myself on late night TV) and started using PPC.

Because the owner of this company had recently written a book with a title identical to my domain except it contained the word “The,” every time they mentioned the book in the infomercial…as people continue to buy the book…”pushing” people to type in my “version” of the book title in their browsers…they click on the lander page they see (including; often; this company’s actual own ad for this service).

Soon after this activity started, the company contacted me wanting to know if I’d be interested in selling it.

    We’re in escrow now.

    That’s fantastic!! Congrats!

  5. My KidsCollege.com does about the same a day. $15-$25 but does it daily which is nice. ConsumerDefense.com has some great peaks as well in that $xx range per day. Both are with Fab as well 🙂

  6. I had many sites and domains make $50-200 per day on different occasions, but it usually didn’t last for too long. Highest click I ever had was $13 and it was actually from adsense on some investing related niche.
PPC is volatile, and on that matter it’s better to have many domains/sites bringing in small revenue each, rather than just one big.

  7. Could be prep work for a UDRP….

Anything is possible I suppose, but this is an ultra-generic two word profession.

  8. Funny. I also have a domain with Fabulous that received a single click 2 days ago that earned $24!! Other than that it’s been somewhat of a dud.
