Aftermarket.com Would Like to Meet at NamesCon

One of the best ways a company can improve its offerings is to meet with clients and potential clients. The domain investment space is unique in that the number of people who are active is relatively small, and it’s a fairly tight knit community compared to other types of asset classes.

When it comes to domain name marketplaces, there are two companies that are ahead of the pack in terms of sales and listings – Afternic and Sedo. Aftermarket.com is most likely the third largest private domain resale marketplace in terms of domain name listings (an unverified assumption).

I received an email last night from Aftermarket.com that I want to share with you. I think it’s a great idea for them to reach out to clients in this manner, and I wish other companies did the same. I receive these types of emails from other companies, but I think reaching out to a broader audience is a good idea.

The Aftermarket team will be attending Names Con in Las Vegas January 13th – 15th. We would love to sit down to talk with you about your current domain-related struggles and any problems you may be facing. We are planning our roadmap for the coming year and greatly value your input. Your thoughts will give us insight into what we can create that will bring the biggest value to you and help you make 2014 your best year ever.

If you are open to meeting, simply respond to this email and someone from our team will reach out to you. Or you can email us at product@aftermarket.com.

If you’re going to NamesCon, you may want to connect with the team at Aftermarket.com to let them know how they can improve their marketplace.

  1. I always saw this place as a bido, a more domainer to domainer exchange.

I don’t see it having the same back end support that Afternic, Sedo, godaddy have, for that reason I feel end user newbies get lost in the platform.

    Best of luck

  2. I had my domains parked at TrafficZ a while ago and then one day I decided to type in a few as I noticed my earnings were down. What did I see? All of them showing 2nd tier ads on them because they decided that unless you list your domains for sale on aftermarket you don’t get to use their tier 1 feed. Would have been nice to receive an email informing me of the change in advance but instead they just flip the switch and put unrelated tier 2 garbage ads on hundreds of my domains with no advance warning of new terms.

DomainNameSales struck a distribution deal with GoDaddy/DomainTools. GoDaddy bought Afternic. Moving forward I predict most sales will come from DomainNameSales and Afternic due to their distribution reach. Sedo will take a drop due to losing their distribution deal in the near future. Honestly not many people I deal with ever mention Aftermarket.

I would never use a company like TrafficZ/Aftermarket that can’t even give me notice of new terms and decides to do what they please with my domains and the only reason I found out is because I emailed them to ask what the garbage on my domains was.

My advice, build your own portfolio site listing your domains for sale combined with listing your domains at DomainNameSales and enabling the GoDaddy/Domaintools distribution which is a 1-click option and leave dated companies with bad management alone. Just proves that having a killer domain “Aftermarket” doesn’t make a business without the right minds behind it. DomainNameSales is on the right track and I believe Afternic will be revived into a powerhouse by GoDaddy. 2014 won’t be a Sedo/Aftermarket world it will be a Afternic/DomainNameSales world as distribution is key.

    • Jay,

I am sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with the TrafficZ/Aftermarket migration. I would definitely like to discuss this in further detail with you. You can send a quick e-mail to mike@aftermarket.com, and we can schedule a call at a time convenient for yourself.

      Take Care,

      Mike Morrison

  3. Some time ago I had a winning bid on one of my domains, he never followed through with payment and when I asked Afternic to pursue the sale, they replied they couldn’t anything about it, That’s some great broker, who charges 10% and UP and is supposed to be working on your behalf.

    @ Francois

For a $1000 submission fee, who wouldn’t you recommend?
