Afternic has reported its sales for last week, and the total is just over $425,000 (only including public sales at $1,000 or above). There may not be many “home runs” in the list of names below, but if you register a name for $8 and flip it for $1,000, it’s still a great ROI when all is said and done.
As I always mention, your domain names won’t end up on the sales list if you don’t list them for sale. In my opinion, it’s always good to list your names for sale in a variety of places if you’re actively looking to sell them. It also helps if you include a “for sale” message on the landing page so any visitors will know it’s available to purchase.

I assume you speculated on that statement or were just speaking in general? Only about 18 domains in the list (.com/.net) were registered in 2010/2011.

Yes many of these were likely hand registrations but we all know it takes more than $8 to get these sales. Some were likely backorders of $59-$129, paying renewal year after year etc. Volume and timing are the keys.

I just didn’t want a newbie reading and assume if they register any domain for $8, they can flip it for $1K.
It has been a long standing situation in the domain industry that anybody can spend $x and sell a domain for $xxxx the next day or week. 🙂

Every thing depends on the quality of the domain, i too got offer for one of my domain with 35 days age, Age of a domain is also an important factor. From my domaining experience i am able to sense that domains get a good authority only after 7 years after registration. may be its my personal view…
