AppleMcLaren.com Just Registered

According to a number of media outlets, Apple and McLaren are possibly discussing some sort of investment or acquisition deal. An article in the Financial Times says “Apple has approached McLaren Technology Group, the British supercar engineer and Formula One team owner, about a potential acquisition.”

Not surprisingly, it looks like someone has already registered the AppleMcLaren.com domain name. AppleMcLaren.com was registered at GoDaddy earlier today under Whois privacy. As a result of the privacy, we don’t know if someone bought it because of the news or if someone affiliated with either company registered the domain name.

My guess is that the domain name was registered by someone unrelated to either company who read the news reports. In my opinion, that was a waste of $10 and could potentially become a liability should there be some sort of deal. I doubt Apple would want the domain name, and if they do, my guess is the company would probably go the legal route to secure it.
