Connecticut.com and Redmond.com for Sale

HuntingMoon.comDomain brokerage, Hunting Moon, just announced that it is the exclusive broker for two stellar geodomain names: Connecticut.com and Redmond.com. As far as I can tell, this is the first time these two private domain names have been on the market for sale.

Although the state of Connecticut is small, the real estate values in many areas of the state are quite high. Connecticut is home to two casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and there are quite a large number of hedge funds that call the state home (as well as hedge fund managers). The asking price on Connecticut.com is $650,000.

Redmond is a city of just over 50,000 residents in the state of Washington. The city may be best known for its largest corporate inhabitant, Microsoft. The state has a fairly high household income level, and it is a growing city. The asking price on Redmond.com is $150,000.

For more information about these two geodomain names, please contact Hunting Moon CEO Evan Horowitz via email:  info@huntingmoon.com or on the phone:  415-750-2570.

Just recently, Telepathy hired Sedo to broker the sale of Massachusetts.com, and I believe that domain name is still currently on the market.

  1. I can tell you this Redmond.com for $150K will be bought up fast from someone at Google or Facebook or anybody at Amazon…150K is nothing to them.

This is a good way to attract competitors.

  2. I’m not so sure…at $150k that is going to be difficult to monetize and get a good ROI given that the city is mostly made up of sprawled residential neighborhoods. Maybe good for focusing on the real estate business.

That said, based on what I’ve seen people over-paying lately for horrible domains (this is obviously a good geo) it likely will be acquired for close to that price.

  3. per google’s keyword tool “redmond” returns 4400 local monthly searches – 34x (price/search) – i understand that there are other variables but $150k seems high to me – secaucus has a higher search # but sold for a 1/10.

    • @ Michael

“secaucus has a higher search # but sold for a 1/10.”

IMO, Redmond is a much more desirable place to live, and many of the Secaucus searches are likely for the train and bus stations, which are regional transportation hubs. I can’t remember the price at which I sold Secaucus.com, but I bought it at auction for $11k.

I don’t know if $150k is a deal for Redmond.com but it’s certainly a much better domain name.

  4. @BullS

Yes, that is why I said the name would be best for focusing on real estate. But Redmond.com is more of a directory type geo name.

Now Bellevue.com selling for $150k a few years back is a MUCH better deal than Redmond.com

  5. If only Connecticut was CO – I’m sure then, Connecticut.CO would be worth $500,000. They were so unlucky to get a crappy shortname .CT which is only ever going to be a second rate TLD.

Perhaps the state should lobby to be able to change it to CO

  6. Valuation-wise, Bellevue.com is a great comparable.

Incidentally, the center of operating gravity for Microsoft has shifted from Redmond to Bellevue. For anyone who has not been to Bellevue in a while, it has become a full-on metropolis. Quite livable too.

  7. @ Rob

    Bellevue is a horrible comp.

Like you stated, Bellevue has become a full-on metropolis with a dense skyscraper skyline. Redmond has just a small little city strip.

Bellevue has some of the most expensive real estate in the nation on the eastern shores of Lk WA and western Lk Sammamish, where Redmond just has a tiny sliver on Lk Sammamish.

Bellevue has a huge list of small/large companies and hotels to market to compared to Redmond.

  8. With so many executives leaving Microsoft, one per week, Redmond will be just like White Center.

The next good bet will be Everett where Boeing just won the 1 trillion $$ tanker deal.

  9. @ Scott / @Bulls

I say Bellevue.com is a comp. You would still have to adjust downwards for population and trend.

As for Redmond becoming ghetto, I would say not likely. It is a very desirable bedroom community on the Seattle Eastside.

As for Microsoft, I would not write them off anytime soon. There are a lot of smart guys working mighty hard over there.

  10. Would be very shocked these names sell for there asking prices. If they were to sell at asking prices and verification of sales I would say wow congratulations and pay a broker a bonus with commission cut.

In 07 when the geo market in price had peaked I would say yes a possibility.

Hard to spell on Connecticut. 1 major weakness. Nice name but too rich.

Redmond imo is nice but middle tear domain name.

Throw in economic worries, gas and more worries you this will be a tough sell. Major cali geo went Cheapter 11.

Good names, solid but Rio.com sold cheaply, and previous geo stuff sold lightly as well. I would pick Cambridge.com over redmond any day of the week imo.

Now Freds platform and team even with the revenue cut would do well imo. Role with people who know how to run geo domains.

    Just my 2 cents.
