Contest Results for My NameJet Auctions

I held a contest to see who could guess the value order for my seven domain names I had up for auction this week on NameJet. Unfortunately, not one person guessed that PortStLucieRealEstate.com would be the highest valued sale, so nobody won the $200 contest.

The auctions didn’t do as well as I hoped, but as with all no reserve auctions, it can be a bit of a gamble. In retrospect, I should have practiced what I preach and reached out to end users about the auctions. Stupidly, I turned down a higher offer for one of the names in January, and I didn’t contact that person to let him know about the auction. Pure laziness and I lost out on a couple grand in profit. Live and learn.

Ultimately, I came out about even, with some profitable deals and a couple of losses. I think the buyers grabbed decent names at good prices, and hopefully, they will make money on their investments.

Here are the results of the auctions:

PortStLucieRealEstate.com – $2,085.00
LandscapeContractors.com – $2,056.00
RefundLoan.com – $1,000.00
GrassCare.com – $840.00
AnsweringMachines.com – $810.00
CoconutCreekRealEstate.com – $527.00
BostonLoan.com – $525.00

  1. That’s a bummer to break even with these good names, but it sounds like you took a nap at the wheel. So did I, as I was bidding for refundloan.com, got an important business call and missed out on the name. Anyway, at least you didn’t have to shell out another $200 for the contest. I’m curious to see if any of these names get developed or just put back on the market, which is likely the case. Have a great weekend Elliot!

  2. I find the data to be extremely useful for any other domain name investors thinking about selling their domains through NJ or similar auction platform.

Thanks for being so open in the contest and results.

  3. I bid on LandscapeContractors.com. I am honestly surprised the name went for that price. I would have loved to build a directory on it. Elliot you mentioned in an earlier post that you wanted to buy a website. Did you ever find one?

    • I think it sold inexpensively based on past interest.

I wasn’t able to buy a website after my post. Still looking.

That would have been a good domain name for it, but I didn’t/don’t want to put the time in to starting a new site from scratch.

  4. Somebody got a great deal on LandscapeContractors. Can you imagine what that and BostonLoan would have sold for in ’06-08? It’s interesting how things change. Those are all good names and hopefully they will pay off nicely for the new owners.

  5. Hi Elliot

Have u ever tried listing your domain at namejet without contacting any endusers and telling anybody about the auction on this blog?
