Could the NFL’s Oakland Raiders and MLB’s Oakland A’s Play at the O.CO Coliseum?

OverstockHere’s some news that will surely excite .CO domain investors and potentially be a HUGE win for the .CO Registry.

NFL.com is reporting that the Oakland  Coliseum, home of the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics, has signed a deal with Overstock, and the stadium will be called Overstock.com  Coliseum.

So why is this interesting to the .CO Registry and domain investors who own .CO domain names?

Overstock is in the beginning stages of rebranding the company name to become known as O.CO. The NFL.com article makes note of this, and apparently, the agreement takes this into consideration. According to the article, “even the Overstock.com moniker is temporary because the company is in the process of rebranding itself as O.com.”

What this likely means is that as soon as Overstock has finished its rebranding efforts in the US, the stadium will be called O.CO Coliseum. According to a different report in BizJournals.com, the company has not made a final decision on this yet.

This is  publicity  money can’t buy. I am sure everyone at the .CO Registry is thrilled, and they should be very happy. Selling O.CO for $300k was the deal of the century.

  1. Yeah, but just like the original O.CO sale, it’s all fake

I bet the stadium doesn’t even exist. And the Oakland Raiders? Come on, everyone knows they moved to LA years ago. The Oakland A’s? Wow, if there ever was a made up team/name, this is it

Quit being a .CO shill…How much are they paying you to write this anyway?

  2. Just in case that was a stupid and uneducated comment, here are links about The Coliseum (officially formerly known as Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum) on the Oakland A’s website and Oakland Raider’s website – unless of course I’ve taken over both professional sports team websites in a ruse to benefit the .CO Registry… LOL

    http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/oak/ballpark/index.jsp
    http://www.raiders.com/tickets/a-z-fan-guide.html

BTW, last season on HBO’s Entourage, one major plotline of the show was bringing an NFL team back to Los Angeles since there are currently no franchises there. The Raiders and Rams played there many years ago but do not play there any longer.

And as I’ve said in the past, I am not paid for articles I write and .CO is not even advertising right now. However, I do have other advertisers that like visitors coming to my blog, and this type of article does drive traffic.

  3. @Elliot…I am 150% kidding; sorry should have put a “/sarcasm” disclaimer or something

I’ve even been to the stadium in question 🙂

(Feel free to delete my initial post if you want)

  4. one more thing…I’ve officially retired from comedic commenting (hope you don’t mind me using your blog to make the announcement 🙂 )

  5. if you get maybe 100 major billion buck companies all starting to say whatever .co, then maybe some ‘look’ for it, but it won’t make google treat it as anything but a cc tld
let’s see less than 30 letters .co available, so that’s all that could use a one letter .co
    it’s not like ibm.com would use i.co or apple.com will use a.co or miscrosoft.com will use m.co
while this is a nice plug indeed for .co, it won’t make people look for .co, it would take 100+ huge companies all promoting .co to make the ‘public’ think of .co as a tld
.com is the king for type ins
    .co will never change that
but this move by o.co can sure help pop speculators, so great for short term flips
too bad that’s not our biz
    development
and now that overstock is moving to brand o.co it’s only good for them maybe
I doubt others will follow, and if they do, it won’t be many, only a small amount of one letter .co’s
    but good news for sure
    LOL
it almost gives .co a legit image

  6. @ elliot

“And as I’ve said in the past, I am not paid for articles …”

Come on Eliot! if any one read few your articles s/he knows you defend hardly .co. For me its okay as I invested in .co. But one thing I cannot understand is that you only own about 10 .co`s . This is reason why some people think you are dishonest.

” .CO is not even advertising right now”

how long? for last few days?. hahaha. They advertised for a long time and they have just finished. I guess it is not a good argument.

Be more objective! people are not idiots!

ps sorry for being very direct and honest

  7. @ Peter

The most important thing in this business is integrity, and my integrity is something I take very seriously. I could be wrong about .CO, but I believe it will end up being a widely used domain extension in 5 years. My belief stems from the fact that gTLDs like .paris, .london, .nyc…etc will be used and people will become more accustomed to not necessarily typing in .com.

As you probably know, my main biz model focusing on buying names and quickly flipping them. .CO, in my opinion, is NOT a great short term investment. With that being said, why would I spend money on a long term investment when I can make a much, much greater profit on short term investments? I wouldn’t and I don’t.

You are more than welcome to be direct and honest, but that’s how I feel. If I wanted to take money for writing articles, I could ramp revenue by ALOT, but I don’t need the money and don’t want people to ever question whether I am writing something because I believe it or because I am paid for it.

    “People are not idiots!”

I disagree. There are a lot of people I would consider stupid when it comes to domain investments. This isn’t brain surgery, but there aren’t a lot of people making a living buying and selling domain names. I may not be the most intelligent person, but there are two things I am proud of 1) My integrity and reputation 2) My ability to buy great domain names and either develop them or sell them for nice profits.

  8. @Peter

Why should someone own hundreds of .CO to like this extension? I own just a little less than 20 and I like it a lot.

  9. @ joe

because its very logical if you are domain investor and like/believe in some extension you invest.

  10. “because its very logical if you are domain investor and like/believe in some extension you invest.”

    @ Peter

I like .org and believe in it, but have no real investment in it.

I like Apple buy don’t have much invested in the company.

Your logic fails. Just because you believe in something doesn’t mean you need a significant investment.

  11. @ Peter

Again, poor argument. Why would I invest $100k in .CO domain names with a 5 year investment horizon when I can make significantly more on .com investments today?

Sorry, but that doesn’t really make sense.

  12. “Your logic fails”

just in your mind…in mine your fails

“Just because you believe in something doesn’t mean you need a significant investment”

this is about domain investment, about money .
if I think( believe) I can earn I invest.

when I read your articles I see big belief in .co
when I look at your .co portfolio I see very small one.

ps I did not say anything about .co significant investment. I just said you have few.

    • “this is about domain investment, about money .
if I think( believe) I can earn I invest.”

As they say, “no shit sherlock” but I think I can make a lot more money TODAY by investing in .com that I will sell later on this week. At the moment, my investment horizon is tomorrow for names I am not developing, rather than years from now.

  13. So I was actually bought into the whole “O.CO” rebranding for a while, until someone on the comment section said that Overstock is just going after the .COM. After a little more research, this ridiculous theory actually has merit. I looked at the US trademark database and guess who filed a trademark application for “o.COM” … Overstock !

Think about it. This leads me to strongly believe that O.CO is either a) very short term rebranding in order to get O.COM, or b) will always be just a “shortcut”

Long story short: the .COM theory actually makes sense based on their long list of “.COM” trademark applications.

    Sorry

  14. @ MT

Maybe, but do you know when Verisign will be releasing one letter .com names? I haven’t the foggiest idea, but when they do announce plans for that, you better believe there will be a lot of companies fighting over those names and likely years of litigation. Just look at the gTLD issues over the last few years.

  15. @ Eliot

Totally agree this one of the reasons why I invested in co

“As you probably know, my main biz model focusing on buying names and quickly flipping them. .CO, in my opinion, is NOT a great short term investment. With that being said, why would I spend money on a long term investment when I can make a much, much greater profit on short term investments? I wouldn’t and I don’t.”

I agree, but I sold few .co`s for v.good money. Unfortunately this transactions were not made public.

“You are more than welcome to be direct and honest, but that’s how I feel. If people question… just think why they do that. Maybe they are idiots or maybe you give them reason why they feel this way…

    “People are not idiots!

I disagree. There are a lot of people I would consider stupid when it comes to domain investments…”

Every experience is valuable lessons to be learn, so leave them:)

  16. are there really domain name dudes here?
    o.com
    LOL
you do know that even 2 letter .com’s are now NOT ALLOWED, what was registered is grandfathered in, if it drops, it gets ERASED
there will never ever be new 2 letter .com’s and there will never ever be any 1 letter .com’s
    PERIOD
I’m amazed no one here knows this
Oh, NEWS FLASH, John Ferber and Domain Holdings ACCUSED OF CRIMINAL PPC FRAUD against a FORMER STATE PROSECUTOR
    http://www.247news.net/2011/20110427-ferber.shtml

Now that’s what I’m talking about
    Real DOMAIN NAME NEWS
A development company owned by Prince Ferber is tracked to CRIMINAL PPC FRAUD
    LOL
And another one bites the dust…
We are the princes of the universe…

  17. @ joe

“I still think you may like something without spending everything you have into it.”

I have never said that and 100% agree with you that spending everything is not good idea unless you have feeling that you win lottery 🙂

  18. Here’s the big picture, Icann says .co is a low grade BS cc tld
    Same with .ws
    Godaddy says they’re brandable tld’s
Google sees them as low grade cc tld’s
You can spend billions in advertising whatever .co but in the end, you got 17 years of .com branding to overcome
    So forget about it
    .com is king
.co will never ever be thought of by google or the public as anything, in fact, when o.co does start to air ads, I want to buy the typos from browsers companies on o.com
Most will type o.com and not o.co
    Humans are creatures of habit
You can put o.co in the ad on TV
    People will still type o.com
So buying the typos is the action on this whole thing
    LOL
    o.com
That’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard yet
And some clown in the USPTO gave them a reg on it?
Or was it filed and pending use?
It’s never been used, so they can’t get a TM on it
    False filing in my opinion
    What do I know?
Seems I’ve had to do real TM’s over the years and the first thing lawyers ask, PROVE YOU USE IT

  19. @MT

Whether Overstock will permanently rebrand itself or not, the mainstream coverage of such facts is all free exposure for the whole extension.

  20. Its heartening to see noone making fun of the o.co / o.com TYPO – it is after all a simple mistake, anyone could make it 😉

  21. “.co will never ever be ..”

I am really happy when I read sentence like this. I have feeling that I met clairvoyant or the Messiah.

    Take 3 deep breath man!just relax!relax!relax!

when you are too emotional or attached to something you cannot see and think clearly. And some guys who see this take advantage of you while doing business with you.

ps Psychology says when you too emotional about someone opinions it means you are not confident of your own ones.

  22. did you hear THE DOMAIN LORD is the top psychic in the world
    NOT ME though
    http://www.sollog.com
so you want to see someone that KNOWS the future, that’s him
He says DOMAIN NAMES are the #1 investment asset too
He called the crash of tech at end of 1999
He called the crash of stocks in summer 2008
He called the huge quake and meltdown in Japan
    Some say he’s nuts
    Judges say he’s GOD
Me I say he’s the baddest domainer on the planet.
    LOL

  23. @ Dear Eliot

“Why would I invest $100k in .CO domain names with a 5 year investment horizon when I can make significantly more on .com investments today?”

    Agree but

You have to understand one thing.
Main reason why guy becomes successful businessman is that he or she has ability to think ahead. Many of them will not allow you wait a 5year 🙂

ps 100k? quite much. I would say much, far too much.
I personally think the balance is the most important thing whatever we do.

  24. O.Co

is the worldest easiest name to remember.

Combine that with hundreds of thousands of visitors seeing and saying O.Co; it will be forever ingrained in everyone’s mind.

    All hail the new

    King!

  25. I was walking around a area in Colorado today and regretted selling the geo dot co to make $XXX. (before I read this post) The rest go up in price every day.

  26. I have about 1200 .com domain names and guess what

How the hell am I going to make up $10,000 a year in registration fees when I am only getting 5 low ball $70 offers on these stupid .com domains and these were like really decent domains.

  27. why .co blows
duilawyer.co and duiattorney.co both sold for what 45K range
    LOL
now try to find either one top 10 pages at google
NOT THERE for dui lawyer or dui attorney
    why not
    it’s a crap cc tld
    so GOOGLE ignores it
overstock can spend 1 billion marketing o.co
    It won’t change that fact
    get it?
now why would someone pay 45K for duilawyer.co when it will never get any traffic from google?
    NEVER
    got it?
.co is a BS low grade cc tld
now if you’re in colombia and search for dui lawyer
ok maybe it shows up after 4 pages
    LOL
    .co is for SUCKERS
    no long term value
dump them while fools are paying for them

    • @ Lords

I can assure you that there are a lot of big .com domain names that have also sold for big amounts and don’t have good Google rankings yet. It may be .CO, it may be the very competitive keywords, or it may be non-ideal SEO…. I have no idea why they don’t rank well yet, but a lot of sites in various extensions have the same problem.

  28. @ Robert Cline
“and these were like really decent domains.”

Maybe Shaggy, Scooby, Velma and the gang can help you solve this mystery.

  29. I can’t understand why Robert Kim refuses to use his real name…………..enlighten us please…………..did you change
your last name for business reasons??

  30. @el

the reason no .co is page one for any high cpc term is simple

it’s a crap cc tld and the tld has ZERO VALUE to google for serps inside USA

now do you understand why .co has ZERO long term value

the only guy here that can even tell you the TLD order of importance at SE’s is me

if a .gov site has your keyword, they’re #1 automatically

    any of you know that?

    NO

.gov is #1 rated tld, period

then believe it or not relevant .org will top .com

then .com then .net then maybe .biz and now .mobi

oh, .edu is also above .com

that’s the tld hierarchy of importance built into all SE’s

Level 2 tld value is the the first thing all SE’s use and if it’s a KEYWORD exact match in a major level 2 value, bingo, you’re at the front of the front of the line at google and yahoo

the only way you blow it is like if you’re schilling and do crap development and get your whole network banned

find one major cpc term that frank schillings keywords is first view on google for

    NONE

same with anything schwartz touches, he can’t crack first view unless he has outside developers do the work

the whole domainer industry is following clowns that really know very little about the net and internet marketing

schilling and schwartz are the two prime examples

    clowns IMO

    now throw stones

  31. With regards to O.com, Overstock had been after it for years, but IMO when they learned about the chance of getting O.co, they focused their attention to this one. It’s very unlikely that Overstock will ever obtain O.com and, after paying $350,000, I think they aren’t very interested in it any longer. After all, they already proved they can run a business on a non .com (O.biz).
