Domain Psychology

If others are like me, they probably find themselves searching for domain names based on events going on in their life. Lately, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time searching for wedding, pet, and real estate domain names. I do some keyword research via Keyword Discovery in addition to the “real world” research that I am constantly doing. I also look-up category killer names on iWhois.com.
Exploring new areas can help broaden your domain horizons and help you find some new domain names. Just like a change of scenery can help a writer or an artist, it can also help a domain investor. I always keep my eyes open when I am in a new store or doing something new. Having a Blackberry handy also helps for the on-the-go domain lookups. Chances are great that if you have the “domain bug,” you do the exact same thing.

  1. Glad to hear I’m not the only one on this planet doing on-the-fly domain name lookups while others are merely shopping, driving or eating at a restaurant. I thought I may be in need of help help. Hmmmmm… DomainTherapist.com, DomainerRehab.com.

  2. I must agree, I find myself thinking about everyday events that I go through and think about what domain name would associate with that. Crazy how this world encompasses our everyday lives.

  3. What is the best registrar with a mobile-friendly website? I often find myself putting domains I see on-the-fly into my notepad in my blackberry rather than doing a lookup right there, mainly because I don’t have a good mobile friendly site.

I would contact your registrar and ask for an account representative. If they give you one, you can email him/her. I know Moniker, Godaddy and Rebel have fantastic customer service reps.

  4. Are you getting married?

This is a great tip. And for those without a Blackberry, I’d suggest simply carrying a small notepad and jotting down domain ideas as they hit. That’s what I do.

    Yes indeed! In August.
