Domain/IP Lawyer Launches Website on TrademarkAttorneys.com

New York City-based intellectual property lawyer Brett Lewis (better known by many as a domain lawyer), from the law firm of Lewis & Hand, has launched a new website on the generic domain name TrademarkAttorneys.com.

The website has started out as a blog, and it will eventually grow into a full-fledged trademark law website. The recently launched website is currently ranked No.2 on Bing and Yahoo, and it is on the second page of Google for the competitive keywords. It’s an advantage of owning a keyword domain name that would have been much more difficult had Lewis tried to rank highly using his law firm’s corporate domain name.

The domain name was purchased for an undisclosed sum a few months ago from well-known domain investor, Rob Grant. This was a name that had been previously up for auction, and I thought it would be a great buy for someone in that field.

When asked about his motivations for building the site, Lewis replied, “we’re excited to own the name and to be developing a blog.   The TrademarkAttorneys.com blog will have a heavy focus on domains, and hopefully can be a resource for the domaining community.”

Once Lewis’ site ranks in the top of Google for his key terms, he will save significant money on pay per click advertising. As with any domain investment, it’s a significant short term expense, but will certainly pay off over time.

  1. Brett is a class act guy. Super knowledgeable and always willing to give advice when asked. We’ve consulted with him on several transactions over the past 5 years. It’s nice to have an internet lawyer that not only understands the industry, but is also part of it!! Best of luck with the new site Brett!!

  2. Just yesterday I received a “cease and desist” letter from the lawyer representing an organization that I had written a review of, and had placed as a page on my website. Their issue I think was that I’d also placed an image and link to a related affiliate product they didn’t care to be associated with. I don’t think I did anything illegal, but as I have access to legal advice I just took the page down.

I do hate being bullied though…

  3. I met Brett at the DomainFest in NYC in August and was impressed, not only with his knowledge of the domaining industry, but also with how freely he shares his expertise. He gave me invaluable advice on trademark issues and domaining in general. He’s a great guy and I wish him the best with this new project!

  4. I don’t know why my first post never appeared…anyway. This is such a great domain and it’s way better than to use his company name or his real name in the domain.

I sometimes advice my clients to register generic names as well as their company names (of course where possible).

  5. Congrats to Brett! TrademarkAttorneys.com can definitely be developed as a brand. What’s interesting though, while I was searching for Trademark Attorney, another domain came up on first page – DomainAttorney.com

It looks like it’s developed through one of those mass development companies. Does this mean that mass development is working for highly competitive keywords?
