Donuts Promoting .Golf at PGA Show

Donuts is wisely promoting its new .Golf domain name extension at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida. According to the show’s website, “The PGA Merchandise Show gathers 40,000+ industry leaders, representing 74 countries.” Obviously this will be a good place to let people know about .Golf domain names.

As you can see in the tweet below, Donuts co-founder and EVP Dan Schindler is manning the .Golf trade show booth in the exhibit area of the PGA Show. Donuts is encouraging people to visit NetworkSolutions.Golf to register their new .Golf domain names. The company is offering a discount code to save money and likely track the number of registrations as a result of the promo.

According to nTLDStats.com, there are around 4,300 .Golf domain names in existence. .Golf domain names have been available for the general public to register for around 6 months.

Interestingly, PGA.Golf is a registry reserved name (likely because of the PGA trademark), and as a result, it does not resolve at the moment. It would be cool if Donuts was able to get PGA Show organizers to use PGA.Golf next year, even if it’s some sort of microsite to promote the show and its related events. This would certainly boost awareness of the extension.

It is good to see registries promoting their extensions directly to audiences that are most likely to buy the domain names. I’ll check in with nTLDStats.com in a couple of weeks and see if there is a noticable spike following the show.
