Donuts Website Now Found at Donuts.Domains

When Donuts first launched, the company used a .CO domain name, Donuts.CO, for its website. The company recently changed its url to Donuts.Domains. I presume this news was announced at DomainFest Asia (and reported via tweet by Colin Campbell of the .Club Registry):

The new gTLD domain names were obviously not available to use when Donuts founded in 2010. Appropriately, the company chose to use a non-.com domain name for its venture.

Donuts operates the .Domains registry, so it makes sense that the company would rebrand its url to a .Domains domain name. .Domains was released in March of 2014, and according to nTLDStats.com, there are around 7,300 .Domains domain names registered at this time.

I am not sure when Donuts changed its url to Donuts.Domains, but if you search Google for the company, you can see the .Domains website is already indexed. It looks like Donuts is smartly practicing what they preach. This should also give the company’s Name.Kitchen website another “not-com” case to highlight.

  1. Not certain when it broke but it was the first I heard that they dropped the .co of their own .domains. Andy did a great job representing Donuts at the show. They are very lucky to have her work for them.

  2. I’m almost certain that Donuts have been resolving and even publishing donuts.domains in some instances for quite a while. The .co is nice when brevity is required however their decision to predominantly make use of a .domains is more fitting and less likely to confuse given they aren’t the registrant of the .com and probably aren’t intending to acquire that domain name. In fact buying the .com would negate a lot of their efforts to promote their own gTLDs.

Perhaps Donuts could modify their WHOIS web page so that the domain name queried also appears in the URL allowing direct querying from the browser address bar. Their static web page for WHOIS is a pain!

  3. BTW I guess it was my idea. Please look at this

    Donuts should hire me šŸ™‚

  4. You actually kind of have to give them props for not registering DonutsDomains.com as well, to capture some word of mouth leakage among people who are telling someone new about “this donuts domains” company without explaining their gtld branded domain and the referral naturally ends up typing in DonutsDomains.com

    9/9/15 1:19 EST currently non-registered. http://www.whois.com/whois/donutsdomains.com

I mean, if it’s intentional for positioning purposes of gtlds you’d give them props. If it’s just an oversight, I expect it’ll be rectified soon.
