Easter Sunday Update

Hope you’re having a Happy Easter, Nice Passover, or a great weekend (or all of the above). It’s just a week away before our big 40+ mile bike ride on Team Ronald, so we went on a 25 mile ride today. Not that you really care, but it’s my blog 🙂

Here are some Sunday thoughts:

  • One of the best (but rarely stated) reasons to add relevant articles to a website is because of the links they may receive from other websites. It’s exciting to see a big spike in traffic to one of my sites that can be traced back to a link from a much larger website, citing an article I wrote. Good, cheap traffic and interest, especially if you’re selling a product or service.
  • I love Freshdrop. I made another nice sale from a name I wouldn’t have found had I not used Freshdrop. There were only a couple of other bidders and I made a very good purchase. The only bad part was that it was locked at Enom for a month and a half, so it wasn’t a quick flip.
  • Speaking of Freshdrop, I saw that FatAndUgly.com is dropping and you’ll need to back order it on NameJet tonight if you want it.
  • I find it quite ironic when some people say .CO and other new extensions take advantage of new domain investors since they don’t know any better. I am very sure these people would more than happily to sell these new domain investors some of their own .com domain names if approached, yet they are concerned that new registries may be taking advantage of them. Give me a break. This is a business, not summer camp, and nobody is forcing anyone to make investments.
  • Similarly, I find it quite annoying (albeit humorous) when people seem to become cheerleaders of one extension or another. If a domain extension is going to find success, it will be based on its own merits rather than hype.
  • If you aren’t on Peter Shankman’s Help A Reporter Out (HARO) email list, you should get on it.  The list connects reporters with questions to people like you and me who have answers. It can be beneficial to you if you have an expert website, where you are quoted in an article with a back link.
  • In case you are interested, it looks like Francois Carrillo is looking to sell PremiumDomains.com.  According to a post on his Facebook page, he said, “it’s time for me to focus on my new projects, so I am selling one of my best name to generate cash flow: PremiumDomains.com – As you may imagine it’s not a cheap name, so only very motivated offer will be considered, just send me a PM.”

Anyway, that’s it for me today. Time to get in a hot tub and relax my legs. Hope you have a good one.

  1. Great morning for a ride here in Illinois. We rode for 2 hours here but took it easy. Nothing better than taking a day off and getting out and ridding or running with friends. Came home and ran the candy off with my wife and daughter. They aren’t quite as fast but they’re a heck of a lot prettier than the biking group 🙂

  2. The number one value we place on a domain is how does google and other SE’s treat it.

We have .mobi on page 1 google for high value cpc terms

You will never ever see that with .co

What most never learn about SE’s is they have a pecking order in tld’s PERIOD

    #1 = .gov

If a .gov sites has you exact keyword, you can move heaven and hell before you move that .gov below you

Then believe it or not, .org is the next top TLD in the eyes of the SE’s

Now this contradicts all the know nothing ‘experts’ that claim they do SEO and SEM and whatever, they don’t, or they don’t do it well.

.co is seen by SE’s as a MINOR cc tld, period, case closed. So it has ZERO long term legs, but yeah, ‘domainers’ can make fast easy money in the tld, but it will never be worth anything, period.

Developers know .co is for Colombia, that’s IT, case closed.

You can’t force google and bing to look at a .co and say, this isn’t really a BS cc tld for Colombia, it’s really a global tld

    LOL

    black is black

    white is white

And to all SE’s .co means COLOMBIA

now if you want to hype .co, ok, stick it on page one for high value cpc term, you can’t do it

so now what, you gonna ‘brand’ a domain, ok, you got 50M or 100M or 1B?

    NOT

So now you invested in a crappy cc tld and can’t get one ounce of SE traffic to it.

When investors realize that, .co will drop like flies, it’s a vanity cc tld, period.

No one is refuting one iota of these FACTS, they use ‘opinion’ and say they like it

Ok like it, now use it and stick it on page 1 of a SE for a high value cpc term

    OH YOU CAN’T

So now how much do you ‘like it’

    LOL

  3. Nice bike ride yesterday along the beach when the sun was setting and the whales and dolphins breaching along the waves.

The warm fresh Pacific ocean salt-ish air flowing thru my blond hair.

Man-life is good, nothing to worry about BS domains.

Not to miss, the bikini girls jiggling in the sand.

  4. Elliot, thanks for sharing!

So, from what I can gather… it sounds like SE’s treat the (dot)com’s like rockstars, say Elvis, or (you pick your favorite artist). In addition, SE’s treat all other ccTLDs like Elvis impersonators. The impersonators may sing & dance just as well, but no one will pay as much as they would for an Original Artist’s concert.

Will this ever change…? Would there ever be a reason to rank a ccTLD higher than a .com, or .org?

    Happy Easter!

  5. @ Mars

It depends…. In the UK, I believe .co.uk websites can rank higher when looking at the UK version of Google. Same is likely similar for other ccTLD domain names.

I think things will get interesting with the introduction of new gTLDs if consumers adopt them. It’s fluid.

  6. .Co will be the new

    King

    mark my word.

The only reason why there are a few still wanting to throw the kitchen sink and anything else is because of their insecurity and the sinking feeling that this is true for them.

Why else would they be working so hard to state and work so hard to point out the unobvious.

  7. @ Robert Cline

Why should anyone believe what you say in regards to this? What successes have you had in the domain investment space? You are preaching like you are an expert, but I don’t know what you have to back that up.

  8. Here are the latest interesting google stats when searching

    site:.co

    242,000,000

    site:.mobi
    134,000,000

.Co has almost doubled .mobi in less than 10 months. Incredible

    Just incredible.

  9. @Elliot, @Brad, et. al

Copernicus 400 years ago was kicked out of the scientific community, osterized, and egged when he proposed that the sun was the center of the universe.

My proposal that .Co will be the new king sounds out of this world, doesn’t it. It does to me.

They call people like this, prophetic.

    @Elliot

have you ever written an article on how many of the .com s are actual sites? I bet you less than 10% are actual web sites. The vast, over 90% are nothing.

How do I know this. If I am like everyone else, I have 1200 .com address. Guess how many are actually developed, 4. That is right 4 are actual sites. @Elliot, how many domains do you have and how many of these are actual sites?

I have seen more garbage parked sites on .com and redirects to .Co or .co.uk in the last month than all of my web surfing days combined. You know what you do to garbage like this. You chuck it. And start all over.

Fortunately, .Co is everyone’s chance to start over and start fresh.

You know I can go on and on, but the girls are calling me and it is Easter, I will refute anyone of you tomorrow.

Remember .Co is the new King.

  10. Hope you had a nice holiday weekend Elliot. You are right about the .co.uk thing, its quite a marked effect in the ‘mid-competition’ range of kw seo I have found. This is from personal experience, promoting a matching name on .com and .co.uk (entirely independent and different website code).
As for .co – the drum-beaters of this extension should bring some stats to the table that mean something. Like The Domain Lords earlier said – why not show a .co ranking on google.com for a highly searched high ppc keyword. Do that and the people who know what they are doing will sit up and notice I guarantee it.
Hilariously – if you google ‘o co’ you get – you guessed it, overstock.COM top. If evidence were needed that .co is a dead duck (currently) then it surely is that 🙂

  11. Even more hilarious of course is the fact that o.CO does not even appear on the top page for a search of ‘o co’ LMFAOOOOOOOOO yeah, all hail the new king !

  12. I am very proud to see that most of you know very well that Domain value begins with a .COM. I applaud you.

By the way I have been getting some interest over Easter a couple of phone calls about a .Com domain I have for sell, FanPageAdvertising.com

I suppose it is obvious that the 750 million on Facebook and WordPress with fanpages are hungry for advertising. 🙂
