Get.Club: First New gTLD Vanity License Plate?

Abdu Tarabichi uploaded a photograph of his new vanity license plate this afternoon, and it is advertising a new gTLD domain name. The license plate is from the state of North Carolina, and it says “Get.Club.”

It’s interesting that North Carolina allows plate owners to have a dot within their license plate characters. I am unsure if there was a deal reached between Abdu and the .Club registry, but I presume this is an advertisement for the registry.

Because the url that is being advertised is the general .Club marketing website, they won’t be able to track results tied directly to this advertisement. I wonder if people will understand what Get.Club means when they see it.

In his tweet today, Abdu asked if this was the first new gTLD vanity license plate. I don’t recall seeing any like it before, have you?

  1. Hi Elliot,

We too were surprised that North Carolina allowed the “.” in a license plate, so we were happy to help subsidize Abdu’s vanity plate. As advertising goes, it was an awesome CPM (cost per mile!!!!).

Thanks for picking up on it. And Abdu, drive safely!

  2. .Club could pay this person for advertising on a per mile basis.
There was a time when people would put logo’s or those magnetic signs on cars and get paid per mile for advertising.
    I don’t see many anymore.

  3. >”I wonder if people will understand what Get.Club means when they see it.”

As a .club supporter myself, I would like to be able to say “yes” to that. But as someone with too much of a passion for truth to do that, the truth is that before I got to that sentence I intended to post that people generally aren’t going to have a clue what that is yet. It’s still a good thing to do if it doesn’t cost too much, however, a step in the right direction, and you’ve got to start somewhere and some time.

  4. Nobody will understand. You’d be better off getting the car vinyl wrapped with the Get.Club on it then a license plate. Though I think it should be a vinyl wrap for iNeedAHobby.Club
