Hillary Clinton Using .IO Domain Name

One of the trends (IMO) that has emerged during the last couple of years is the usage of .IO domain names. I’ve seen quite a few startups using domain names with the .IO extension, and it seems that the values of these domain names are increasing. I do not own any .IO domain names and don’t closely follow the market, so this is just an unsupported observation.

Last night, I read an article on Mashable that discussed a new commercial for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign. One thing I immediately noticed was a small link on the top right hand corner of the commercial: HRC.io. Clicking on the link brings you directly to Clinton’s campaign website.

Here’s the television commercial that has been making the rounds. You can see the HRC.io url when you hover over the video:

I have no idea how long Secretary Clinton has been using HRC.io, but it was an interesting choice. It’s too bad whomever advised her on this short domain name didn’t convince the campaign to buy ClintonKaine.com, which recently sold via Flippa for just $15,000.

  1. Trump is a great businessman, so he knows the power of a domain name. Now every people who wants to know about Clinton Kaine by visiting ClintonKaine.com will get the opposite expose of the presidential campaign.

  2. @Surya,

“Trump is a great businessman, so he knows the power of a domain name.”

He’s rich. Not a great businessman. There’s a difference. Compared to stock market index funds, Trump actually did worse than chance with his money. But he started off rich and, in spite of repeated bankruptcies, has clung to a portion of his fortune. And, of course, he plays a celebrity billionaire on TV; so people mistake him for a success story. Various billionaires who are truly successful, including Warren Buffet and Mark Cuban (who didn’t inherit a fortune), have punctured this balloon. Mitt Romney, the previous Republican nominee, is worth about $250 million. He was a great businessman – not Trump. Trump’s a con artist.

    • You overlook the difference between Trump and Hillary, Trump operates within the law, taking advantage of our Bankruptcy laws and loopholes in the tax code, Hillary on the other hand openly breaks our laws, exposing top secret information to Russia and the rest of world, no different than what Snowden did, but he’s a wanted a man.. She obstructed justice by destroying evidence, she perjured herself, Stole from the White House, 2 semi trucks full of property when she and Bill left office, Both of whom have enriched themselves in the hundreds of Millions of dollars selling influence in Washington DC, On the streets we call it “Bribery”.

How this Woman was able to win the popular vote is beyond belief, Clearly the uneducated and politically illiterate are now the majority.

      • “Clearly the uneducated and politically illiterate are now the majority.”

“In the 2016 election, a wide gap in presidential preferences emerged between those with and without a college degree. College graduates backed Clinton by a 9-point margin (52%-43%), while those without a college degree backed Trump 52%-44%. This is by far the widest gap in support among college graduates and non-college graduates in exit polls dating back to 1980. ”

I am not going to get into a political debate because I hate political discussions. I am unaffiliated with any party and almost always vote a mixed ticket, including during this election. I understand that one does not need to be college educated to be “smart,” but it seems to me that your comment implies that uneducated voters chose Clinton, but based on what I have read, the opposite is true as Clinton held the advantage among people with college degrees.

Might be Trump is not the best businessman. But the Trumps Hotel Chain is one of success hotel chain in the world. And he is one of business persons that has protected his brands by buying a lot of domain names since long time ago. He also filled UDRPs on his business related domains like TrumpCard.com, TrumpEstates.com, TrumpAbudhabi.com, TrumpIndia.com and many Trump with major travel destination cities. You must check this site to know what I am saying : http://www.businessinsider.co.id/donald-trump-web-addresses-domains-2015-8/?r=US&IR=T#omYS85zMFuthgKyS.97

  4. @Surya,

Yes, actually, I have those details at my fingertips in a way that probably no one else does. You see, awhile ago I built a database to track all UDRPs filed at the National Arbitration Forum. At NAF alone, Trump is behind 33 UDRPs involving 63 domains. Junk like the following:

    trumpink.us
    googletrump.com
    cybertrumpcardcasino.com
    wwwtrumpcardcasino.com
    donald.trump.name
    cyber-trump-casino.com
    cyber-trump-card.com
    trumpssportsbook.net

Even if it’s legitimate brand protection, much of it is extravagantly wasteful. Not something I’d point to as “getting domains” exactly.

Trump is notoriously thin-skinned, bullying, and litigious. The UDRPs are just a miniature version of the man’s 3,500 lawsuits.
