Is DWN.com Sale the Deal of the Year?

SedoI received Sedo’s weekly domain name sales report, and I am somewhat stunned to see a valuable LLL.com domain name sell for  just 2,999 EUR. According to the weekly Sedo report, DWN.com sold this past week via Sedo for 2,999 EUR. This is roughly $3,243 USD. I  am not sure if the seller listed it for sale on the marketplace and it was bought  immediately or if the buyer and seller reached a deal privately and transacted via Sedo.

Although I am a bit disengaged from the LLL.com market at the moment, I would think a domain name like this is worth somewhere in the vicinity of $50,000 – $75,000 USD on the wholesale market. It looks like these are “Chinese premium” letters which have fared well during the past few years. Estibot values this domain name at $67,000.

DWN.com had been owned by a company called Data Warehouse Network located in Ireland. The new registrant appears to be based in China.

We’re still in Q1 of 2017, but this could go down as the purchase of the year for the buyer.  In fact, I cannot recall such a low sale price for a three letter .com domain name (any LLL .com domain name) in many years.

  1. I’d say so! Wow. You have to wonder if it was someone who is scouring constantly looking for such deals or just a lucky bastard.

    • Hard to know if they are actively monitoring new listings or just lucky. It would be a lot of work to actively monitor given it is the type of thing that only happens once a decade. There was a similar event with some of ireit’s names on afternic a long time ago.

    • Maybe seller needed fast cash? This sale certainly hurts comps for the entire LLL landscape over time, as even anomalies “count”.
