Jamie Zoch Rebrands Zearn to Drop Alert

Jamie Zoch blogged at Dot Weekly for quite some time, but apparently his blog’s database was accidentally deleted during a hosting change. It’s unfortunate because I enjoyed reading Jamie’s insight and I miss Dot Weekly.

A while back, Jamie announced the launch of Zearn.com, “a  real-time domain name auction format that is solely dedicated to GoDaddy Auctions with a totally new way to watch, find and bid on domain name auctions.” I’ve never tried it before, but I can see how it would be helpful.

This evening, Jamie announced (via Facebook) that the platform’s name was changing from Zearn to  Drop Alert. Based on his announcement, it would seem that someone acquired the Zearn.com domain name from him, and that was the impetus for the rebranding.

Whatever the case may be, I personally like the move because Drop Alert sounds more appropriate than Zearn, especially because it’s a new brand with limited marketing spend.

I hope all is well with Jamie and wish him well with this new branding.

  1. I always considered Jamie one the cleverest guys in the industry. He’s very bright, and I too, liked his blog a lot.

I wish him well with the new venture.

  2. Thanks for the article Elliot!

The switch from Zearn to DropAlert.com will take a little bit but things should look right by Friday when Zearn.com no longer resolves to the auction site and only DropAlert.com will.

If you haven’t checked out the site, it’s a real time event that takes place when GoDaddy’s auctions are ending. Bids are as near real time (running directly of GoDaddy’s API) allowing you to see “new bids” placed all in one place, updating without having to touch a button!

The above part of the site is only available during the times when GoDaddy’s expired domain auctions are taking place, which is about 11am central time until about 5:30 pm central time. It’s free, so why not drop by and check it out!

I hope to blog again soon, just trying to get my ducks in a row with how I would like to approach it. 😉

    • Never really liked the name Zearn but DropAlert is absolutely perfect. Great choice on the name. Good example to everyone that sometimes shorter is not always better. Nice job!

  3. Jamie’s blog is one of the kind, because it is different not like the cookie cut and paste from most of the bloggers.

Love reading his blog….it is something out of the norm.
