LLLLSales.com is a Neat Sale Tracking Tool

I recently acquired two LLLL.com domain names in the aftermarket, likely paying above their current market value to secure them. I reached out to a few trusted sources to seek their opinion on the value, and one of them shared a very cool tool that I want to share with you.

LLLLSales.com tracks four letter .com domain name sales that are closed on public platforms such as Sedo, NameJet, Flippa, GoDaddy, 4.cn and other platforms. The best part of the tool is the robust search functionality, allowing you to look at various attributes of sold domain names. It appears that the website has over 100,000 sales indexed at a value approaching $100 million.

Some of the search functions include:

  • Patterns such as VVVC, CCCC, CVCV (V = vowel and C = consonant)
  • Letter Quality (especially important in the Chinese market)
  • Other Attributes such as “triple premium”
  • Sale Date Ranges
  • Sale Price Ranges

I was able to search for the type of 4L.com domain names I bought to give me an idea of the price I paid compared to the current market value (no surprise, but I likely overpaid at today’s valuations). It was very helpful to be able to search for the attributes as well as the dates, since this market seems to be changing rapidly. Being able to see what sold yesterday on Sedo that is similar to what I have is very helpful.

From my perspective, there isn’t an exact science to determining the value of a domain name. CCCD.com might seem to be worth more than AAAB.com from a Chinese domain market perspective, but in reality, the domain name with vowels might have more prospective end user buyers.

There is no perfect tool to determining the value of a domain name, but I think LLLLSales.com gives a pretty good idea of what comparable domain names are selling for at this very time.

Thanks to Giuseppe Graziano of GGRG.com for sharing this tool with me!

  1. llll.com’s are getting some great numbers. Pronounceable 4l combo’s are what I have been collecting.
What I have noticed lately is a lot of inquiries for my lll.cc’s . Number and letter combos. .CC is shorter and easier to type than ANY extension and I think the market is finally recognizing it.
Mobile devices are the medium for internet access and easy to remember and type names are gold imo.
These new extensions with 4+ characters after the dot are a CRAZY bet with the world using mobile devices to access the net. Imagine how many accidents etc will be caused by people trying to type these huge extensions into their phones as they are driving, walking, etc…
Short and sweet is the future of internet addressing. Short cctld’s and .com will rule for quite some time. imo.

  2. Just sold all but 7 of mine, close to 200 in the last couple of months. Made a good ROI about 5x my money, now putting that into the 6n.com market just bought 1700 of them, which I believe will 10-20x my money in the next 6 months, depending on certain numbers of course. This business is all about ROI, nothing more, nothing less, too bad I didn’t jump on nn.com and ll.com, when I started buying names in 1998, but better late than never:-))

LLLLsales.com is a great tool, that is what I used to track the industry. It was a great run, still have about 7 left, and good luck for those who are holding with them.

    Thanks, Jim
