Many “Dress” Domain Names Registered

Is the dress white and gold or is the dress blue and black? Amusingly, the great dress debate seemed to be what many people were talking about online yesterday, and there were quite a few “dress” .com domain names hand registered.

According to Verisign’s DomainView Keyword Trend Tool, ten  of the newly registered .com domain names related to this trend include:

  • DressColorTest.com
  • IsTheDressWhiteAndGold.com
  • TheDressWhiteAndGold.com
  • DressIllusion.com
  • DressColorDebate.com
  • WhatColorsThisDress.com
  • BlueOrWhiteDress.com
  • ColorChangingDress.com
  • WhatColourIsTheDress.com
  • TheDressColor.com

I think it’s pretty silly to register domain names like this, especially considering this trend will probably peter out in a few days. In addition, I don’t really see any value in these domain names. Perhaps some of these names were bought for SEO purposes, but again, I don’t really think this is going to be something people will be talking about in a week or two.

Interestingly, some of the domains that were registered are four and five word domain names! Who said long tail domain names were on the way out?

As you might imagine, there were other dress related domain names that were registered that probably have nothing to do with this trend. I happen to think a domain name like DressCrisis.com, which was registered yesterday, will have greater potential than the trend related registrations.

  1. Just registered DressDue.com which I think is better and even shorter than DressCrisis.com but also with $120 Estibot Value & $0.05 CPC. I do quite agree with you there is really no point in registering such long tail domains which would never sell!

    • Why does DressDue.com have value? What am I missing?

To me, “Dress Crisis” sounds like a brand or television show. “Dress Due” doesn’t sound like it makes sense unless I am missing something.

    • Yes I can see your point but ‘Due’ means proper or rightful so it is clearly quite important to top-end fashion market hence value is given whilst DressCrisis.com has no value or CPC by Estibot. Nevertheless, I have managed to sell quite few hand-registered names for some good profits like 3dHoloLens.com sold for $1200 this year!
