My Top 5 Picks for the TRAFFIC Auction

When I received the list of names for today’s TRAFFIC auction, there were a couple of names that caught my eye that I had a serious interest in buying. Since then, I’ve come to terms on a couple of large-ish purchases, so I will most likely be on the sidelines (well, probably playing blackjack or at the pool) for this auction.

Since it’s unlikely that I will be bidding, I thought I would share my top 5 picks from the auction without worrying that I am going to end up giving myself additional competition.

Online bidding is not available for this auction, so if you aren’t in Las Vegas and have a serious interest in the domain name, you should get in touch with conference organizers to sign up for phone bidding: “Just contact Ray Neu.  ray at 54.ws before NOON today west coast time.”   Alternatively, you can try and get someone that you trust to bid on your behalf.

Nat Cohen has offered up Cleanest.com for auction, and all proceeds from the sale will benefit the Internet Commerce Association. This is a no reserve auction, so the high bidder will help the ICA and get the domain name.

Here are my top 5 picks:

  • Bouquet.com
  • Friending.com
  • LawnMowing.com (Reserve under $25K)
  • MovieTheatre.com AND MovieTheater.com (Reserve under $50K)
  • Therapeutic.com (Reserve under $10K)

  1. Yawn. Live auctions (in-person) are no longer an efficient way of buying domain names. Even if there’s a limited audience participating.

    • Typical from BS.
I’m sure Elliot is smarter, more educated and better looking than you.

Haven’t you heard, don’t judge a book by its cover.

I’m sure Mrs/Dr. Silver is very happy with Elliot.

    • Meyer–maybe you could not decipher the wordings….

small kid means he looks very young at his age.

Yes yes Mr.Elliot is a very smart guy!!

  2. MovieTheater.com, MovieTheater.com and Therapeutic.com are great domains. Would definitely enjoy owning any one of these three domains. Good luck to the future winners of these domains.

  3. I’m interested in the Final Price result in one of Elliot’s Top 5 Picks .. FRIENDING.COM .

I own FRIENDING.ME . Would love to see what kind of interest FRIENDING.COM got.

I’m pretty sure it won’t get near it’s true Value in this Auction, but someone will have a great opportunity with it.

    • It looks like friending.com went for 2200. SO sorry I auctioned it here – I’ve turned down better offers from private inquiries thinking an auction would bring in better offers – I should have put a reserve on it.

I hope it gets used well – it was a book title I was writing.

    • Monica I’m so sorry for this very poor result.

A reserve would have been recommended. These types of auctions have been proven to be very bad for most sellers IMO.

I wouldn’t even think of selling my FRIENDING.ME for this price. I know others may have a different opinion, but I would rather wait and hold especially when you have that .com.

    • Thanks for the condolences – so screwed, but they wouldn’t accept friending.com with any reserve.

I bought the domain in 2001 since it was the title for a book I was writing – I guess I should have just written the book!

BTW – what’s up with all the domainers posting fake numbers – that’s gotta bring some weird karma….

      Back to writing….

    • Brutal.

For what its worth, you aren’t the first original registrant of an ‘old domain’ who turns to the ‘domainer’ community for help selling it only to seriously regret it in the end, for numerous different reasons.

  4. Yea, I second that. Do you have any idea who will be first to release the official auction results from T.R.A.F.F.I.C.?

I was very surprised to see that no-one at all live blogged, tweeted or Facebook-ed any of the activity from the auction.
At least, I could not find anything at all…. Nothing even on the official TargetedTraffic accounts….

  5. I am so shocked to see that no bloggers jumped on to report sales.. They would rather report Sedo sales promptly which are already published everywhere!! lol.

  6. Any idea what these sold for if at all:
    Mylartape.com,
    CycleClassifieds.com
    WhattheF.com
    NYCCam.com
thanks in advance if you know.

  7. Many bloggers in Vegas- Morgan Linton, Shane Cultra, Andrew Alleman, Elliot Silver, Michael Cyger, etc…….if the auction was a success it would have been plastered all over the net already. I have been searching everywhere since last night and its hush hush whoever you talk to. Those results that “M” put up are BS. Whenever something is this quiet it means it was extremely embarrassing.

    • If you offered me $10,000 cash right now for 10 auction results, I couldn’t tell you.

I left the area after my panel as the auction was about to start. I spent a while playing blackjack (lost, but up overall thanks for asking), and then I went to the pool.

Later on, I met up with some people for dinner and asked about a few specific names. I was told Bouquet.com might have sold, LawnMowing.com didn’t sell, and Friending.com sold for under $5k maybe. I only know that one because I was at dinner with the buyer.

I asked Rick to send me the auction list this AM, but I am sure he’s going to be busy.

I had no names in the auction, and I wasn’t bidding on any, so I had little vested interest in sitting through an auction when I had better things to do. I’m in Vegas for my first time away from home in like 3 months, and I am going to take some time to relax.

If I get the auction list before someone else gets it, I’ll post it.

    • I have an update from Rick:

      Bouquet.com closed at $30k.
There’s one name that might close near reserve (not sure which name)
Tentatively around $140k in closed auctions
      Over 50% of names sold.

  8. According to Ron, the auction closed with just under $112k in sales.

Bouquet.com was the top sale, and that is the one with a $27.5k bid on a $30k reserve… also included in the $112k total.

  9. Why is anyone surprised the auction gave poor results? Domainers are some of the cheapest people out here buying domains, nobody I’m interested in dealing with. What we need is to get the message out of our little world and into the business world that a great domain is a great value at any price.
