NameFind Hit With UDRP

It looks like a domain name owned by NameFind, LLC is the subject of a UDRP filing. I was looking through the World Intellectual Property Organization’s new UDRP cases, and I saw that a company called Ellery Land Pty Ltd has filed a UDRP for the Ellery.com domain name. This is WIPO Case D2016-0066.

Ellery.com is registered to NameFind, LLC. This company is affiliated with Afternic, and the domain names in its portfolio are from portfolios including the Marchex portfolio and Mike Berkens’s portfolio. A Whois history search shows that Ellery.com was previously owned by Marchex.

I did a Google search for Ellery Land Pty Ltd because I had never heard of the company before, and it looks like the company is in the fashion business and uses ElleryLand.com domain name for its website. That makes sense since the company is called Ellery Land, although it refers to itself as “Ellery” throughout its website. The ElleryLand.com domain name has a registration date of March 13, 2007.

Ellery.com is currently parked, although the links on the parked page don’t seem to be related to fashion. The domain name has a creation date of June 29, 2001, making it nearly 15 years old. In addition to the .com domain name, Ellery.net, Ellery.org, Ellery.biz, and many other domain names with the “Ellery” term are also registered.

This will be an interesting UDRP to follow, and you can be sure I will keep track of it and share the decision once it is made public.

  1. Like much of the NameFind inventory the domain is priced and available at GoDaddy.

3-10k + time and stress spent on a UDRP in which they may end up with nothing other than GoDaddy increasing the price… or they own it today for 15k.

Pretty big gamble they are taking, IMO.

  2. I went to the namefind.com we site, searched the whois for a few domains and the first 2 domains from that website were offered for sale by HUGEDomains.com NOT Marchex or Godaddy or afternic, weird 🙂

    • Correction!

Those 3 domains you gave the example for are not found on Namefind. They are searchable on Namebright – do you think you got them mixed up?
