Local NBC News Anchor Buys Presidential Barack “Hottie” Obama Domain Name

You’ve all probably heard the news from Buffalo, New York by now. President Barack Obama visited a famous wing joint in Buffalo yesterday, and he was greeted by a 45 year old woman who loudly proclaimed, “you’re a hottie with a smokin’ little body!” Kinda funny, kinda inappropriate, but what the heck. You may only get to meet the president once after all.

NewYorkMag.com reported that shortly after this made the news, Buffalo news anchor Scott Levin (from NBC affiliate WGRZ) thought he could cash in on this news event and decided to buy HottieWithASmokinLittleBody.com in the hopes that someone would be interested in buying it from him.

It’s pretty interesting to see a local news anchor registering domain names related to a   news event in the hopes of cashing in on it. If Levin really thinks someone would want to buy it, he shouldn’t leave the standard Godaddy parking page up. It’s also interesting to see people who aren’t in this business buying domain names with the hopes of flipping them for easy cash.

  1. PS: I HATE talking about politics (especially with people who have nothing better to do than to spam every website with their feelings about things), so if you post something stupid related to political issues, your comment will not be posted.

    Cybersquatter! n 🙂

  3. Is there really an issue with trying to flip a domain? I applaude his quick registration as I know somebody else most certainly tried to do the same.

Grant you – I do not think the domain is worth much, but take a look at my ebay listing….

I will do whatever is necessary within legal reasons to get out to TRAFFIC in Vancovuer ….take a look at my domain for sale on ebay.

I do not consider myself a squatter, as I have written google, best buy and many trademark owners and told them I would give their respectable domains back to them for free. Funny thing is – they do not ever reply.

I am trying to clean up the industry in my little mannerism, yet this big corporations do not seem to care.

    Am I off base?

IMO, that Bill Clinton .ca domain name isn’t worth anything.

“I do not consider myself a squatter, as I have written google, best buy and many trademark owners and told them I would give their respectable domains back to them for free. Funny thing is – they do not ever reply.”

So because they didn’t respond to your email (probably one among thousands they receive daily) you assume you are free and clear – and/or not doing something wrong? I think you’re taking a silly risk owning these names. If you are so willing to give them away for free they probably are much more of a liability than a valuable asset.

    “Am I off base?”

    Yes, I think so.

  5. I agree it is not worth anything – especially to me.

My typos domains – I just want to unload, but to just let them drop is not right… I am seriously trying to give them to their potential respective owners…

Following domainers such as you, and many others, I want to ensure that the industry is not labelled in a negative light…

May I ask how I should unload things like yaoho.ca
googlesearch.ca, vestbuy.ca and many others. I bought these a while ago, not knowing anything and now I wish to take the straight and narrow path.

    suggestions?

I was going to delete or drop, but that is not proactive enough. Everyday the big corps sue the little guys trying to take ownership and most of the time, they are correct in doing so, but that type of press emits a negative light on us domainers

I just want to do my part and help clean up this viable industry and by turning them loose, the problem will not go away.

Not sure…like I said – I am new to this and just want to be somewhat socially responsible

  7. very true…catch 22.

    thanks for the replies…

Case in point is the domain adword.ca is dropping next week, so I send a letter to the Representative of Service for Google Inc, the law firm in charge of google’s Canadian trademarks and tell them that they might want to secure this domain name before it drops, and in return, I would also give them any that I have for free…

    No response…go figure.

I will likley delete them as I do not want a negative light cast on my name…

thanks Elliot – I appreciate the feedback.
