Poll: What is Tax.com Worth?

Earlier today, I posted the news about Domain Holdings getting the exclusive brokerage listing for the Tax.com domain name. Not surprisingly, the press release didn’t mention the asking price set buy the buyer, so I don’t know if they are looking for six figures or seven figures. As I mentioned, the comps they listed are probably indicative of a seven figure price target, but who knows.

I’d like to know what you think is a fair price for the Tax.com domain name. I have set up a poll below, and I think it would also be interesting to know why you think it’s worth what you think it’s worth. Hopefully, Domain Holdings will sell the domain name and the price will be made public.

Vote on the value of Tax.com in the poll below:

  1. considering the upcoming gtld .tax launch and since taxes.com isn’t being used, I’d definitely keep it in the 6-figure range.

  2. domainindex valuation for tax.com is 1.43 million dollars but it’s on much higher side. on side note, as I was in to .pw landrush auction on namejet, just noticed that qq.pw sold for $861 USD. That’s nice since I have few .pw names

  3. I put it at around $1.1MM, so I voted for the third option on the poll.

It is currently directing to a developed site, of which it’s value, from Alexa, to Overture value, daily visitors, … and so on, are not completely latent.

    It has tremendous potential.

  4. Domainers coming up with prices and valuations for domain names is the funniest thing in this business, especially when it’s for their own domains.

    LOL

    • One of the draw backs to blogging medium is the difficulty to have a dyadic give and take, conversation. If we could, I’d demonstrate to you that everybody appraises everything, we may not agree on a mathematical number, but certain numbers could be excluded.

For example, I bet you and I, and every reasonable person agrees that Tax.com is worth more than one dollar; we all agree that it is worth more that $10; more than $1,000, more than $10,000 and so on. We all also agree that it is not worth one billion dollars.

Therefore, the question is what is the reasonable price in between these extremes? That is what appraisal, simplistically, is all about. We all partake in appraising on a daily basis, not just domains, but our environment, activities, products, and services. We may not all agree on a finite, and it is a good thing. In our stock markets, some people buy from those selling, all based on appraisal of a certain stock. It’s in the engine of our capitalist system.

  5. By looking back at the history of domain names for ‘financial terms’ such as funds, mortgages, credit cards, investing, etc. I put my guess at above $2m.

  6. This is a fantastic 3 letter financial name, it could also be a Genetic T A X could be anything. Easily sell over a million ( the name is only worth how much the buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept.

  7. The bigger question is, what is “tax.com” worth if none of the major industry entities want it?

Is this name a six figure domainer bauble or a truly salable and legitimate prospect to be sold to someone with deep pockets?

The world may never know… or if it’s destined to know, it will probably find out rather quickly.

  8. I had the same issues setting up a price for Forms.com. This site seems active and I’d like to know if it’s generating income of any kind. From my resources, the site gets 50,000 uniques per year. A CPA firm should be in the lead to purchase this domain name but with 600K uniques per year and firms paying $20 and up for clicks, An Adsense blog site could generate $600K per year and even with the way the site is designed today, it could generate that much money. I can think of two people right of the bat that would buy this and probably in the $1.2 to 2M range.
