Pre Super Bowl Suggestion for .CO Registry

You’ve seen the great Go Daddy & .CO Registry Super Bowl commercial that will make its official debut on Super Bowl Sunday. The television commercial is supported by a web campaign found at  YourBigIdea.CO, and it was all created by  Deutsch NY.

Lori Anne Wardi from the .CO Registry shared some insight about the commercial and campaign, and I think it’s interesting.

One suggestion I have for the .CO Registry is to compile a list of common trademarks (like Microsoft, Nike, Verizon…etc) and prohibit domain names that match those TMs from showing up in the .CO search results. As you can see from the screenshot above, the suggestion tool is working unfiltered, and suggested domain names could become liabilities for registrants. It’s especially critical for a wider audience that watches the Super Bowl.

I think the .CO commercial is going to be a big hit.

  1. Also, when you find a domain you like and want to buy it, you’ll be forwarded to GoDaddy which gives you a final price of $132.95 (5-year registration by default) which isn’t exactly alluring.

  2. Past is prologue. I forgot who said that first.

We’ve seen Godaddy/.Co super-bowl ads in the past. And can measure what impact it had on the general public.

What would be nice is an update with your experience, Elliot, with your development of Bahamas.co almost 3 years ago. I kept about a dozen generic premium .co, and I can’t say that it’s had much impact.

  3. Good ol Donny dropped the ball. Everyone here is talking about the domain YourBigIdea.co but there is no branding whatsoever to get people to visit that url. It doesn’t show it or say it but what it does is tell you to visit Godaddy not Godaddy.com or Godaddy.co but just Godaddy. For every 100 that see the commercial maybe 1 will actually type in YourBigIdea.co. They totally dropped it.
