Protrada Acquires Domainface.com

10

With the economy in somewhat of a slowdown, it seems that the number of acquisitions in the domain industry has been on a decline over the last year or two. Off the top of my head, I can’t recall the most recent acquisition in the business.

I just received a press release announcing that Protrada has acquired Domainface.com, a website that offers a “detailed history and seo metrics” for millions of domain names in its database. One reason why this acquisition is notable is that DomainFace.com reportedly boasts over 50,000 current members, which will add to Protrada’s growing user base.

The acquisition price was not disclosed by either party.

Congratulations to Protrada and Domainface Co-founder Kenny Goodman on the news.

Press Release is below:

Los Angeles, CA, Friday 6th July 2012 – Protrada, the world’s first domain name trading platform, today announced the acquisition of Domainface.com’s assets. Domainface.com is a leading provider of domain name data and is owned by Face Software Limited.

Domainface launched in January 2010 and quickly established market presence through strategic partnerships including Market Samurai, a market leader in internet marketing software. The deal will allow Domainface’s 52,500 current members to migrate to Protrada’s domain trading platform, whilst Domainface.com will reposition itself to become an information and education portal. The acquisition is another step for Protrada in its plans to expand the domain name buying and selling market beyond traditional domain investors.

Domainface Co-founder Kenny Goodman said “Domainface members will now have access to Protrada’s sophisticated bid management and domain trading technology” he added “innovation continues to drive opportunities in domain investing and Protrada is clearly a market leader. Our distribution partners can also benefit from Protrada’s powerful API technology to offer their users a more robust data solution”.

Troy Rushton, CEO & Founder of Protrada advised, “We are excited to offer our domain trading technology to Domainface members. Kenny and his team have done very well to grow market share and the time is now right for us to substantially increase our user base. The level of user transactions in Protrada is growing steadily as we continue to welcome new domain traders daily. We are focused on ensuring the transition is seamless for the new members and much of what Domainface had in its development roadmap is already live and available in Protrada today” Rushton also added “Kenny Goodman is a thought leader in the internet marketing industry and we look forward to working together on a number of new projects”.

The announcement to Domainface members happened via a personal blog post from Kenny Goodman, who gave the background story on why he created Domainface and expressed his genuine excitement and confidence for his member’s transition to Protrada.

For info, there is no way to sign up, I tried through Facebook, directly, … and always got a 404 page after press the submit.

I am wondering how your 50K members signed?

Not sure how this is good news in any way. Domainface started off wonderfully but was understaffed, underfunded, and had no real plan to scale successfully. The founders continued to accept payment for a broken service that almost never worked.

Now they are dumping the users over to Protrada which has even less features for users. No domain age, dmoz, etc. which are critical for selecting a domain.

While those 50,000 members do have some value 99% are not paying members. If they were the founders would of had the money to hire a team of developers.

    ???

    What is domainface.com?

NEVER even heard of them and honestly, never used protrada.com.

So I guess I am out of touch?

The Protrada interface is limited and need some help. For example, uploading and pricing domains in bulk is non-automated and time consuming. This is an issue for those of us promoting a large domain portfolio.

While it IS a great service, they have some kinks to iron out.

If you are a member of Market Samurai or Domain Samurai you will receive a very inconspicuous notice, much like the other hundreds of notices you get a day. Only this one, if you fail to read it, is your ticket to transfer memberships.

I almost disregarded my notice. Members need to be aware and proactive.

thanks for posting Elliot, always appreciate your positive support!

@james devlin thanks for comments, we would really appreciate an update from you on the current version of protrada. Since launched 9 months ago, we have really worked hard to get it right. We have done a number of upgrades over the past 90 days and continue to work with our growing user base on enhancements. We do have domain age for example & you can now backorder expiring names onto namejet, snap & protrada simultaneously.

@john B thanks for your support, we are in fact working on a bulk listing tool now, we had one in beta & have pulled it back to make it more effecient – please keep the feedback coming & together we can build a really solid platform.

Have to say, I’m really disappointed with the integration – it’s a lot more difficult to find domains than it was with Domain Face.

I’m interested mainly in Auctions, I would have liked to sort by PR, price and a whole host of other metrics – I can apply filters, but sorting is something else entirely. It would be good to have min and max values, too.

    Hey Gareth

    thanks for your comment.

I’m not sure if you have raised these issues with our live help desk, but sorting and filtering in protrada is actually very easy.

Go to the auction tab, type in into the PR and/or price columns & then hit “enter”. For example, greater than 1 is >1 or a range can be 1..5 (2 dots). Once you have filtered the data, you can then sort (ascending or descending) by clicking the relevant column heading.

Any further queries please click on the live help button in the top menu to access support.

    my best
