I received an email a few minutes ago from Aron Meystedt of Heritage Auctions, and he shared the reserve prices for the upcoming HA.com domain name auction. The live domain name auction will take place on November 21, and pre-bidding is now open.
Listed below are the reserve prices for the domain auction. These reserve prices will be posted to the auction lots later on tonight. I’ve bolded the names I think have very reasonable reserve prices considering the quality of the domain names. I do not have any domain names in this auction, and I have not been compensated by anyone with respect to this auction.

So if I understand what you are saying if a domain has no reserve and is not bolded you feel it has no value at any price?
No. I just don’t feel any were good investments for the same reason I don’t spend my time hand registering many domain names. There isn’t a whole lot of profit potential, in my opinion.
The only NR name I probably could have bolded was JazzBlog.com. I know what the asking price was on that name before it was in auction, so I know what it’s ceiling is, and frankly, I am not going to invest in a name with such a low return potential. Even if I got it for a few hundred dollars, it wouldn’t be worth buying for me.
As someone who owns 3l .com’s let me dispel the notion that the letter “q” (or “x” or “j”) aren’t good letters. I’ve sold with those letters for between 20k and 250k per domain. And one of the domains with a q was actually trademarked but the owner needed it and didn’t want to go through the legal process of trying to yank the domain.
That said owning a 3l .com is not a quick sale. You have to sit on it for years until a buyer comes along. And you need to own many 3l’s to make any money.
Personally I’d rather have many 3l’s purchased cheaply (with any letters) than I’d have a few with “good” letters.
So in my opinion most of the 3l’s on this list that aren’t bolded are worth their reserves.
Don’t forget the buyer’s premium that goes on top of the reserve price.
Sure, they can sell for more (and some maybe much more), but if you’re paying $6-10k for a subpar LLL.com domain name, it’s probably not a great investment. Better ones on the market for those prices, IMO.
Additionally, there is some UDRP/legal risk with LLL names, especially LLL names that have less commonly used letters where a TM holder has an easier chance of proving bad faith registration. For instance, there may be 500,000 companies called ABC but only 3 who use XQY as its initials.
My favorite is Hemisphere.com $30,000. Noone is talking about it. It’s 3 syllables, 10 letter rare one word dot com – great for a brandable, I think, a global brand. Why noone excited about Hemisphere.com? $30,000 sounds reasonable.
I think it’s a good name for a brand for sure, but not a great investment for a domain investor at that price level.
It is a great brand for a magazine about travel. 🙂
