Sedo Selected to Broker Top .CO Domains

A press release just hit the wires this morning announcing that the .CO Registry has selected Sedo as the exclusive domain broker for a small group of premium .CO domain names that haven’t been marketed before. Some of the names that are under exclusive with Sedo include:

  • clothes.co
  • software.co
  • hardware.co
  • body.co
  • france.co
  • profit.co
  • onlinemusic.co
  • internetmarketing.co
  • onlinedating.co
  • jobsonline.co

It’s not clear if additional domain names are included with this particular deal. The .CO Registry selected Sedo because “Sedo has done a fabulous job helping to establish and develop the secondary market for premium .CO domain names,” said Lori Anne Wardi, vice president of .CO Internet S.A.S. “Given their expertise and global reach, we are confident that Sedo is the perfect partner to help us bring these valuable digital assets to end-users worldwide.”

Sedo has set up a separate website on Sedo.CO to market .CO domain names that are for sale. Many of these domain names are priced, so you can buy them without having to negotiate if that’s your preference.

Press Release is below:

Sedo, the leading online domain marketplace and monetization provider, today announced that it has signed a two-year exclusive partnership with .CO Internet S.A.S. to provide brokerage of a select set of previously unreleased .CO domain names, including:

clothes.co
software.co
hardware.co
body.co
france.co

profit.co
onlinemusic.co
internetmarketing.co
onlinedating.co
jobsonline.co

.CO is increasingly becoming the top level domain (TLD) of choice for start-ups and small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) searching for meaningful, memorable, and affordable domain names to brand their web presence. Since .CO was first introduced in 2010, Sedo has generated well over $1 million in .CO sales revenue, and the .CO domain extension has become one of the top selling domain extensions in Sedo’s marketplace.

“Sedo has done a fabulous job helping to establish and develop the secondary market for premium .CO domain names,” said Lori Anne Wardi, vice president of .CO Internet S.A.S. “Given their expertise and global reach, we are confident that Sedo is the perfect partner to help us bring these valuable digital assets to end-users worldwide.”

With more than one million .CO domain names registered by individuals and businesses in more than 200 countries around the world, CO has become a truly global TLD. The .CO domain is treated equally with legacy domain extensions like .com and .net by the search engines, making the domain particularly appealing from a search engine optimization perspective for businesses of every size.

Many of the world’s most recognizable brands are already using the .CO domain to build or expand their online presence, including Internet behemoths like Twitter, Google and Amazon (which have acquired the single letter .CO domains t.co, g.co and a.co, respectively); the Aspen Group insurance company (aspen.co); and the well-known Silicon Valley incubator 500 Startups (which has rebranded to 500.co).

“.CO Internet has been very successful in setting the bar for up and coming TLDs, and we are proud to be partnering with the .CO Registry to help bring these not yet released domains to businesses worldwide,” said Tim Schumacher, CEO of Sedo. “As we begin seeing new gTLDs hit the market in 2012, .CO will serve as an example to those applying for their own domain extension of the solid business model and strong partners that any registry will need to succeed.”

.CO Internet has received a number of awards for its management of the .CO domain, including a nomination from the World Trademark Review, praising its efforts to make .CO an end user, business-friendly domain extension that protects the rights of brand owners. Recently, .CO was also recognized in the World Finance 100 List of the 100 finest businesses of 2011, alongside companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and other innovative companies who have outperformed the competition, and helped to redefine the business landscape.

  1. Expensive.

    For example, some sales:

    perfumeria.com Jun 17, 2008 $16,188
    perfumes.eu Sep 11, 2010 €4,000
    perfumes.org Jan 1, 2007 $3,500

    And:
    perfume.co 30,000 USD

If you compare domain sales and the .co auction, you can see a huge price difference.

  2. A tad too steep imo. BUT, I really like the initiative. Some newborn or adolescent registries lock up the goodies for far too long. Bold to let the market be the judge. Even though there are reserves, they risk losing face. I hope the infamous and rare species of “endusers” feel tempted.

  3. It’s been proved that superpremium keywords in .CO can sell for 5-6 figures. So, if I were to decide, I would decrease the reserves for the low end of the list, while maintaining them for the very best names.

  4. No dought that this names are premium names.
As much as i would like the .co registry to get this prices i think that they are dreaming.
If they do get it,i will be a very rich men.

  5. Some of the prices are expensive, but if anyone can find buyers, it’s Sedo. I’ve seen an increase in traffic to a few of my .COs in the last month for keywords like Perfumeria. I would put .eu above .co, depending on location, and yes, some of those names are ridiculously overpriced. So was Dudu, but I can’t fault Sedo and the seller for setting a price and finding the one company who would pay that much.

  6. Lets hope they actually market these domains and try to find companies willing to dish out the extra cash when I am alsmost certain they have heard about what happened with O.CO.

I’d say most of the prices are relatively high – I think this is a result of most “premium” .co domains selling for only $100 a few weeks back… but hey I picked up a few so that made me 🙂

  7. They’re certainly aiming at end users with those prices.

Some of the prices look pretty unrealistic to me. It will be interesting to see which of the names sell.

It’s a pretty big listing of names and at those prices I think it could take quite a while to sell the bulk of them.

  8. The bloom is off the rose and the petals have been in the trash for many months.

“premium .co” is and will always be an oxymoron.

    Go .com or go home.

  9. I have several .co domains.
What i’ve realized is that a domain isn’t worth anything unless its ranked.
I have 2 .co domains that rank. Ranking any domain increases its value, but even more so if its a TLD. Most domainers are ignoring the fact that .co domains are considered equal to .com domains in google’s eyes. If you rank a site, you make it valuable, period.
I own http://www.kaysjewelry.co , its ranked for about 10 keywords but one of the keywords that its ranked for receives about 49k exact searches.
We also own and have ranked http://www.budgetcarinsurance.co
The keyword budget car insurance gets 14k searches a month and advertisers are paying $32 per click. A very valuable domain, but not because of the TLD but because of its rank.
We are accepting offers for KAYSJEWELRY.CO and BUDGETCARINSURANCE.CO

    thanks,

    Roger
