Small Change to Sedo Parked Pages: BIN Price Added

I want to share a bit of news from Sedo today. The company made a small update to  parked pages that are listed for sale with buy it now prices in Sedo’s marketplace.

As you can see from the screenshot below, the price of the domain name is listed with the “for sale” messaging. Parked domain names that do not have BIN prices on them will continue to display the for sale messaging without pricing guidance.

This is a small change that should not impact parking revenue, but the company hopes it will  make a difference in sales conversions. I presume the company is correct because a prospective buyer is probably less likely to click through to the lander if the price is significantly above what he or she would pay. Having seen the price, I would think people who click through to the sale listing are more likely to buy.

As always, your thoughts about this change are welcome.

  1. That’s a nice addition Elliot and I’m sure many prospective buyers in the past have not clicked to check a price because they may have believed it would be way above their budget.

Just wondering if an asking price is exactly the same as a BIN as with the example you provided there is room for a interested buyer to make a counter offer that is far less than the asking price of 3000EUR.

  2. I see two drawbacks in this approach:
    1. As less visitors will go to the offer page, the corresonding stats in Sedo account of the owner will no longer include those following the link to check the price on the offer page. So, it may be harder to evaluate the interest in the name according to this metric. Or at least the way this metric was working before will change.
    2. BIN price might be captured by web archiving tools, such as Screenshots.com – which is not always desirable.

  3. Hi everyone –

Just wanted to post a quick clarification to Elliot’s post above; this enhancement actually also applies to “Make Offer” domains as well as BINs. In the case of make offers, a “suggested” price would be included.

So just for example, if the user has the make offer price option selected, it would show $300 USD (just a hypothetical price here) and then on the offer page it would say $300 USD (negotiable).

    Thanks,
    Sedo
