Snoop Dogg Secures SnoopLion.com

I just read that legendary musician Snoop Dogg has decided to change his name to Snoop Lion, and smartly, it looks like he was able to buy SnoopLion.com in advance of the announcement. According to a Whois search, SnoopLion.com was registered in April of this year, although it’s currently under privacy.

SnoopLion.com is a developed website with information about Snoop Lion’s upcoming album, Reincarnated. The musician secured the matching Facebook (Facebook.com/SnoopLion) account, although he needed an underscore for the Twitter account (Twitter.com/Snoop_Lion).

I often read about famous name changes where the person or group did not register the corresponding domain name, and that either caused them to buy a more obscure domain name or it led to a legal battle. Instead of having to pay someone who may have beaten him to the punch, Snoop Lion and his marketing team were able to buy the name for less than $10.

Interestingly, Snoop’s given name is Calvin Broadus, and CalvinBroadus.com is not owned by the musician, but it is parked.

You can check out the Official Documentary Trailer for Reincarnated below:

  1. Maybe composer and song writer would be good to add to the list.

Or how about rapper. You know, cause that’s what he is…

    Go team INDIA!

    • LOL… I can assure you I don’t use writers on my blog… well, only one article was ever written by a hired writer and that didn’t go so well. I wish I could pay someone to write content for me that was timely, made sense, and expressed my opinion.

  2. This transaction shows that hand registration is not dead, or a bad thing.

To me, that should be the message in this piece. The fact that the name was just registered in April refutes the mantra that names must be aged to be any good.

Why didn’t you emphasize that, Elliot?

    • I thought I did… it was wise to register the name of his new brand rather than have to buy it from someone else.

BTW, I made my first hand registration in quite some time: HepatitisPill.com.

      • HepatitisPill.com is a good one.

I registered YamFlour.com a few days ago. A lot of Third world countries buy Yam Flour for their food, in bags, and boxes. I may develop it myself.

    • Some lucky winners hand reg’d snooplion.org, snooplion.me, snooplion.tv, snooplion.info, snooplion.eu, snooplion.co.uk, snooplion.de today, lol. Hopefully it was the real Snoop. Snooplion.net was reg’d 2 days ago by some trendsetter and is already available for sale on sedo.

    • Exactly what I was thinking. I’m not sure what he will gain by doing this. Maybe he just loves lions or something. I doubt anyone will ever call him Snoop Lion anyways. LOL

  3. Great article! —–so much fun reading them, Elliot, as they reach so many different tastes….the variety is refreshing and inspiring.

Ever see the SnoopDog video with Katy Perry called “California Girls”? One of my all time favorites on youtube. 🙂
