SOG.com Subject of UDRP (Updated)

A UDRP was filed against the valuable three letter .com domain name, SOG.com. The UDRP was filed at the National Arbitration Forum (NAF), and it is listed as case #1726464. I will be following this UDRP via UDRPSearch.com.

SOG.com is owned by a company called Poise Media Inc. that appears to be based in New York. Using DomainTools’ Historical Whois Tool, I was able to see that the registrant appears to be the same since February of 2007, meaning that it has been owned for over ten years. SOG.com  was created in April of 1996, so this domain name is over 20 years old.

SOG.com is currently monetized  with pay per click advertisements using Sedo. The domain name is also listed for sale on Sedo where it has a $40,000 minimum offer requirement. I am not sure how long the domain name has been listed for sale. SOG.com is clearly valuable, with Estibot pegging its value at $370,000. I do not see any public sales record for this domain name on NameBio.

The NAF does not reveal the name of the complainant until the UDRP decision is published, so I do not know who filed the UDRP. The most Google results for “SOG” that I see is a company called SOG that sells knives and tools. There are a few others like Special Operations Group (uses SOG.org), SoG League Racing, and US C-SOG – Corrections Special Operations that could have also filed the UDRP.

There have been three other UDRP filings against LLL.com domain names in the last few weeks, including ATC.com, ALO.com, and TNP.com. I am keeping track of the filings and will publish an update once the decision is published.

Update: As reported this afternoon on Domain Name Wire, the complaint was denied and the domain owner will be able to keep the domain name. I would be remiss if I did not add that attorney Zak Muscovitch laid out a very strong (and thorough) case for the owner of the domain name, as can be seen in the decision.

  1. This is to be expected; increased valuation of LLL .com domains in recent years has driven asking prices skyward.

More suitors of three letter .com domains will now respond aggressively to a high five figure or higher, than before.

  2. Keeping this domain parked with ads is not simply stupid, it’s masochistic … 🙂 … what a mistake …
If the complainant is SOG Knives, as I think, IMHO the owner will lose the domain.
SOG.com parked page is clearly showing ads related to SOG Knives, and that company has, among others, a TM for the word “SOG” (word mark) filed in 1995, first use in 1987 …
