Sunday Thoughts, Updates, and Tips

I’ve been hearing a lot about Star Wars but I have no plans to see the movie. I’ve never really been into the science fiction movies and shows  like Star Wars, Star Trek… etc. Based on all the hype surrounding Star Wars, it seems like I’m in the minority.

Here are some of my domain industry thoughts, updates, and tips for you. I invite you to share your own updates if you have any.

  • There are 11 days left in 2015 and still quite a bit to accomplish before closing out the books on the year. A few years ago, I shared an end of year checklist for domain investors, and I think the list is still pretty accurate. If you have some time before Christmas, you might want to address some of these items.
  • One thing I’ve been doing is putting together smallish lists of names that are owned by large portfolio holders that I want to buy. I am going to email these companies or people this week to see if we can close out an end of the year deal. I am always happy to sell good names at fair prices, and I bet there are people who want to hit or surpass their goals and will make deals happen this week.
  • If you like .XYZ, .Info, or .Online domain names, Network Solutions is currently currently advertising  a $0.25 deal on those extensions for hand registrations (that is not an affiliate link, FYI but they are an advertiser with that special offer).
  • Almost  950 people are registered for NamesCon. I read what Shane wrote about the hotel, and I think I am going to stay at the Tropicana. I was debating whether to stay there or at the Vdara, but it probably makes the most sense to stay at the Tropicana.
  • The NamesCon auction looks like it is going to be a big hit. There are a ton of awesome names up for sale. While most of the best names have reserve prices, my guess  is that Monte is working hard to contact prospective buyers and make sure they know about the auction. Domain owners who have domain names for sale in the auction  might also benefit from contacting prospective buyers to inform them about the auction. I would not be surprised if the NamesCon auction becomes one of the top 5 domain name auctions.
  • Kelly Slater Wave Company created a pretty innovative man made wave which looks awesome. The company uses KSWaveCo.com for its website. In my opinion, they should get in touch  with the .CO  Registry and work out a deal for Wave.CO. This domain name  is considered a premium registry owned domain name. I presume other tech companies might  be reluctant to use the Wave branding because of Google Wave, so it would make sense to reach a deal on Wave.CO.

  1. That is really awesome about the wave company, Elliot! Nice find. That must be so rewarding for them! I personally think they’d be better off with Ripcurling.com, but I’m a little biased. 🙂

  2. >”it seems like I’m in the minority”

That would definitely be a very small minority. Was just having that conversation with someone else who is not into such things the other day. Hard to believe, really, but then again I don’t care for opera, classical music (usually), or beer. To each his/her own…
