Sunday Thoughts and Updates

Thanks to everyone who visits this blog. I am especially appreciative of those of you who share opinions in the comment section. As I mentioned to someone earlier, I don’t really censor comments unless I absolutely need to remove them. I ask that people are respectful, and the vast majority of comments are respectful and most are insightful. I appreciate it and I know others do, too.

As I typically do on Sunday, I want to share some thoughts and updates with you:

The Red Sox are off to a fantastic start! Monday is Opening Day at Fenway Park, and we will be there. Opening day marks the start of Spring around here, and we are finally getting some nice weather. Believe it or not, we still have snow in our yard.

When the official Verisign Twitter account tweets a link, it currently uses vrsn.cc as a url shortener. Since the company owns VRSN.com, it would seem to make sense for them use that as its url shortener instead. Yes, it is one extra character, but I think it would help show other TLDs aren’t necessary for url shorteners.

As a writer, I love the new gTLD domain names. There’s always an interesting angle to cover, and regardless of the topic, there are almost always comments. As an investor though, I am still on the sidelines for the most part.

I can’t believe my daughter is already 3 years old!

Congratulations to the winners of the World Domain Day 2015 industry awards:

Best Registrar: GoDaddy
Best Aftermarket Platform: SEDO
Best Parking Provider: DomainNameSales
Best Domain Blog: TheDomains
Best New gTLD: .CLUB
Most Popular TLD in India: .IN
Indian Domainer of The Year: Joy Antony
Best .IN Registrar: ResellerClub
Best .Bharat website: Cinema.Bharat

Many of the mainstream news articles about political domain names are amusing. 99.9% of names that are registered are worthless. CandidateName2016.info isn’t worth anything, regardless of the $21 million Ebay listing price. It makes a slightly humorous story for a slow news cycle, but it’s getting annoying. Having some of those speculators who buy garbage domain names identified as “domain investors” is a bit insulting to those whose domain investments are worth something.

  1. Nope I did not have any bad domain nightmare but as you all probably know most of us have a bad weekend filling our taxes- another wasted weekend that we can never get back in our lives.

What the f(*&^ of filing taxes when “they” have all our info already and I’ll gladly send them the check for the taxes I owe and if I don’t agree with the bill, I will dispute. I will even pay extra just to save my precious time.

Oh well, am glad Spring is here and time to plant veggies.

  2. Thank you for the effort you make in your blog. I learn a lot. I am sitting at the Tampa airport flying to Las Vegas for the week. I am attending New Media Expo conference for the week. Hoping to learn about developing some media properties with some of my names as well as make sales contacts. I wonder if other domainers will be attending.

Your babies are growing up. Lucky you that you can work at home with them.

  3. Hello Elliot,

We wanted to take the time out of our busy schedule to thank you for your excellence. We know we may have had some skirmishes in the past, and we say thanks for your input and patience. KUDOS you deserve it my friend. JAS 4/12/15

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  4. Hi,

I would like advise on selling my .im domains. I know it’s not as attractive as a .com but would any market be interested in this?

    improve.im
    recla.im

    Thanks,
    Rex

  5. Elliot,

I don’t know who conducted this world domain day.

Most popular extension in India is also -.com. please check alexa for India top sites.

Best .IN Registrar: ResellerClub. Everyone knows Godaddy is far ahead of others even for .in.

  6. Elliot I know it’s Monday now, but this seems the best place to post this here. I have some good news and some bad news for you – for you personally:

    1. The bad news: you now apparently have huge and major competition for your dog walking venture.

    2. The good news: as a result of that, your dog walking domain(s) and website may have just skyrocketed in value to the moon compared to before.

Here’s the scoop (lol, the joke there re this topic was not thought of or intended until the word popped out) 😀 –
