Twit & Run

This is cross between a Twitter update and a blog post. A little bit longer than 140 characters, and a little bit shorter than a typical blog post.

Today I am working on building Newburyport.com from the ground up using the same platform my developer built for Lowell.com and Burbank.com. Launch is imminent – hopefully by the end of the weekend.

To me, there is nothing better than learning all about a city and building a website that will represent it to thousands of people a month. It’s exciting!

I will post an update when I turn over the DNS, although the site may be incomplete.

  1. Yes. It is a great feeling. I’ve done several for my Caribbean country 😉 sites using xsitepro.

Once you get the hang of that software it’s pretty easy and I am not a great web designer by any means.

    Congrats on the expansion.

I use Dreamweaver and I love it. My developer (Mike) sets everything up for me so I can copy/paste and make changes as necessary. If it wasn’t for Mike’s help I would be SOL 🙂

  2. It seems the big companies are registering their _com twitter addresses like

    http://twitter.com/godaddy_com and

    http://twitter.com/register_com.

In fact that is how register.com has been keeping its customers updated about it’s ongoing DDoS attacks. So is this a new trend or is people going to just use the name only. The name only though is usually already registered in most cases so the “_com” really looks like it makes sense.

What will be more popular in a year from now?

I’ve thought about this and only time will tell. My gut says the “_” might confuse some people who confuse it with a “-“. I wish I had lowell or burbank accounts, but I opted for lowell_com and burbank_com instead of lowellcom and burbankcom.
