What Domain Names Are You Buying Now?

A while ago, I wrote a blog post asking people what types of domain names they are currently buying. I was asked by a reader to post the same type of article, and I am happy to allow people to share the types of domain names they are buying at the moment.

For me, I am still privately buying one word English .com domain names whenever I can find a decent deal. I am only buying .com domain names, and I am only buying real words that could be used by many different type of companies (ie they have generic meaning). I am also paying reasonable prices as an investor, so it is pointless to send overpriced names. In general, the domain names I am buying were created before 2000 and have quite a few extensions registered because there is great demand for the keyword.

I invite you to share the types of domain names you are buying in the comment section. If you want people to send you their names, you can leave a way to contact you but that is certainly up to you. I ask people not to post their domain names for sale in the comment section.

If you have an exceptional one word English .com domain name, created before 2000, that has at least 5 other extensions registered in that keyword, and is a generic keyword, you are welcome to submit it for my review via my company’s website. You can see some of my company’s domain names and domain sales to get an idea of what I am buying and selling. I value my time and yours, so please don’t send names that don’t meet the requirements!

  1. At the moment I am only buying domains for family and close friends and not myself. I have my hands full with way too many projects already. The domains I have been investing in for them are in the following niches: “All Natural Solutions”, “Geo + service”, and “Gods Of Different Historical Cultures That Are Long Gone Now”.

  2. Mostly buying and selling two-word brandable domain names.
I sold another brandable domain name today, actually.

I don’t usually buy invented brandables though. I tend to stay away from invented brandable names, but I do own some.

I still like keyword generic and descriptive names too. Those type of names will always sell.

  3. Hello Elliot!

After looking at embrace and a few other marketplaces I looked at my marketplace and moved all my domains to sedo. What I was left with just 4 .com’s everything else was new gTLD’s about 15 – 20.

I’m going to put all my focus on getting .com, .net, .org, .info more ( unless a new gTLD’s is below regfee ).

  4. Still experimenting to find what works for me. I’m buying names that have some demand and I can sell if I have to or hold – sticking to .com, .net, .org, the occasional .co, that are registered in 5+ other extensions, mainly one word. This past week I picked up Sinsemilla.org, Genotypes.net, one-vote.com & fukf.com.

  5. I have been looking for domains beginning with “The” for the last few months, and a few data / tech related names. Managed to acquire ThePoncho.com, TheSatire.com, TheBrimstone.com(handreg), Revoking.com and ChristianShows.com among a few others. Only .coms of course. I have been bidding on several names but the auction prices everywhere have gone up considerably, the names that could have been acquired for 200-300 a year ago are now selling in 4 figures.

  6. As the name indicates, we’re buying names that are “on the agenda” now and will still be in the future. No fad and hype names.
Mainly political/social scene; .com and .org only.

  7. I am focusing on brandable domain names.

    mostly: Word+Suffix, 4L, 5L and TwoWord .com

This year so far, I had 3 Brandbucket sales in 30 days.

This method is working well for me at the moment.

  8. Focused on IoT related domains, domains for clients, and geo-centric. Have a few hemp related domains left to let go. All .com procurement’s and exceptional .org names.

  9. I normally buy only .com domains, but recently picked up a bunch of .org, because they made sense as .org:

    CharityRaces.org
    ObesityTreatment.org
    ArthritisTreatment.org

    CannabisTestingLabs.org
    CannabisMedicalResearch.org

    My favorite recent .com purchases:

    ManhattanCleaners.com
    YourOnlineTutor.com

  10. I find the examples very helpful. I believe it gives a much clearer picture of the type of names people are looking for and actually buying than just a description. Maybe a couple of examples to clarify would work?

  11. I prefer to invest two-word generic English .com domain names that I believe multiple C-level executives around the world would love to own to improve the stature of their companies in the eyes of customers, vendors, investors, and the media.

  12. Also if parking is not a big thing like in the past, I still like traffic names and i’m still buying them, so if someone would like to liquidate them before parking will die you can reach me at Paolo@7growth.com

Also buying Two words coms with high demand keywords like Tech…, Honey…, animal + colour and so on. Max 500$ per name unless it is a very strong name.

  13. Cannabis dot com names:
    celestialcannabis
    dovercitycannabis
    greatamericanherb
    marihuanacare
    peachstatecannabis
    ……

  14. Geez, seems like a majority of the readers here have invested in Cannabis-niche domains. I have, as well. I’m late in the game, but I’ve sold enough in the past few months to do well enough. Now, I’m focusing on holding long term, cutting loose some junk, and acquiring some better quality ones. Later on this year, I’m planning on starting to acquire some single word .coms, as well.
