Why I Write My Blog

I started my domain blog a few years ago because I wanted to be able to give advice and not have to worry that a well thought out article I posted on a domain forum would be overlooked as a result of many new posts being added, and it would just get pushed to the bottom, without being read and discussed.

Having a blog has given me the opportunity to create discussions, which I have learned from and hopefully others have as well. There have been things I’ve done right and done wrong, and it’s great to get instant feedback and advice from others who may have already done the same thing or thought about doing what I’ve discussed.

I have enjoyed meeting many people who only know me from my blog, and I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. For the majority of the time, blogging has been fun and rewarding.

It’s been fun writing articles and sharing some of the things I am doing in my business. Because I am writing about my business, sometimes I take comments more personally than I should. Instead of always giving a well thought out reply, I occasionally have been defensive in my reply. I apologize to anyone I have offended by doing that.

I enjoy sharing with you, and I enjoy learning from you, and I look forward to continuing this. It has been a fun 3 years and I look forward to more.

  1. Any blog is an expression of one’s views on a topic and by inviting comments inevitably there will be individuals with varying viewpoints. It is natural to become somewhat defensive when someone’s views contrast with your own. For example, I recently stated on a Yahoo Finance blog that I had sold a position in a stock I have followed for several years and mentioned some risk factors in the stock. Some other members thought I was a short bashing the stock which is untrue.

While there are metrics such as exact & phrase search volume, CPC, CTR, search ranking, etc domain monetization is not an exact science. Branding potential and a buyer’s willingness to pay for a particular domain cannot be predicted with precision.

  2. What you share every single day is helpful to more people than you will ever know. You do an amazing job of helping others and sharing what is working for you.

Thanks you and have a great weekend

  3. To Elliot,

Your passion is immense, and it is reflected in your blog and other endeavors; it is not a negative to take things, inadvertently and unwittingly personal, it is the function of a big heart. We both got carried away in exchanging views, and have since patched things up.

    Don’t change.

May we all do better in 2011. Happy Holidays to all Domainers, (except domain parkers). πŸ™‚

We can not rule out a class action lawsuit in regards to domain parking companies and Google. I find it insulting that fortune 500 companies will run beautiful ads on my domains for a whole year, and pay me, (and many others)
3Β’ while posting millions, and billions in revenue. We are not that naΓ―ve. We have just been helpless. Some of these companies should be dragged to congress, and subsequently to the courts. I intend to get paid, even in arrears!

  4. I have really enjoyed this blog and particularly Elliot’s sharing of his logic & reasoning behind certain views and decisions.

Also, I can’t think of any other blogger who has so actively been involved in the conceptual and actual development of domains/websites into real businesses.

Funny thinking about how opinionated domainers are. I am terrible in this area and have to actively tone down my own rhetoric. Elliot, you usually come across pretty balanced and fair … which is a great personal asset. Hope you continue to enjoy blogging for a long time to come.

  5. Elliot,
let me begin by saying that I am suspicious and not very trusting of people that wear suits and ties.

The highest compliment I could pay you, my being both an animal lover and proud owner of three beautiful dogs, is that after reading your blog for about a year… I would trust you to walk my dogs.

  6. Elliot-

I’ve learned so much from your blog. I definitely owe you a few drinks at some point in the future.

    Thanks for leading the discussion.

    Happy New Year!!!

  7. You know what I love about you Elliot? What you see is what you get!

You are a man of integrity, and you share it all – the good, the bad, the ugly, as well as the successes.

And without ever resorting to the low road, you interact with ALL your readers with class and tact – even the shitheads and the haters!

You’ve touched, inspired, and taught many domainers through your blog!

So I hope that you continue to have many more successes in the coming year…… πŸ˜‰

    Happy Hanukkah!

  8. Your blog has been a good source of information/news/advice and an invaluable resource for amateur domainers like me.

Hope you would continue your good work for many more years to come.

  9. Hi Elliot,
I have been in domaining for some months or a year. And your blog has always been one of the most informative blogs for me. I have learned a lot about domaining from your blog.
And all i can say is Thank You for the great work Elliot. Just Keep it up……..!

  10. El-Sil,

I hate you because you came onto the domain scene, and gave away for FREE domain investing secrets I was charging my clients for. You robbed me, bro, so you owe me in that respect.

However, I love you because you’ve personally pushed domain investing into the forefront of “investing” for people who were looking for a way out of their malaise…

Then I also love you cuz you’re cute. (wait, that was my wife – now you’re REALLY in trouble!)

Have a happy Holiday season, Mr. Domain Information For Free But Really Based On Traffic Coming In For My CPM ads. Smart move!

Always looking forward to what you post, my friend.

You are getting payed in the rear ….

Maybe, Some of these companies should be dragged out into
the parking lot for an attitude adjustment.

  12. Elliot,
I realize my intentions might have been misinterpreted, but as you know, dogs are children with fur. Their purity and innocence mystifies me.

It’s 3:51am, I have had a few beers and listening to the Who “By Numbers”, and while my girlfriend thinks I should turn my music down and go to bed, my two chow -chows are crashed on the floor right next to me and quite happy to be in my presence.

My other dog is an Akita, but she is moma’s girl and will always take her side. Some days my best accomplishment is taking them for a walk, while everything else may feel like a total failure, it gives me great comfort to know I have at least made someone incredible happy that day.

Sorry to be so verbose, but it’s late…

    Cheers!
