XXX.com For Sale – $7,000,000 Reserve

36

This afternoon, I noticed that Bari from Moniker posted a note that XXX.com is coming up for sale at the DomainFest New York City auction on August 18th. I have known about this for a few weeks, but she also posted some additional information you might find interesting.

The reserve price is $7,000,000 for this domain name. According to Bari, in April 2010 the domain name received 1,510,670 visits and in May 2010 the domain name saw 1,513,457.  Additionally, “traffic has more than doubled to 120K uniques per day and revenue has doubled since the announcement of the .xxx extension becoming available.” That’s a shit ton of traffic for this undeveloped domain name.

As mentioned, the .XXX extension was recently approved, and there will probably be north of 100,000 .XXX domain names purchased in the first year. This may lead to even more traffic to the site via typo traffic.

Of course a big unknown is the current revenue numbers as a parked domain name. If that number isn’t revealed, people may assume the numbers aren’t great, otherwise there wouldn’t necessarily be a reason to keep that info quiet.

Nevertheless, this is a very valuable domain name that will soon be for sale.

I noticed that one. I knew it was a .xxx tpyo but I wonder if they are interested in porn or in the domain extention… Maybe you could make .xxx.com domains available porn promoters like .asia.com was doing…

It would be an interesting auction to follow. Great names are listed for the same auction.

Seems overpriced with that reserve, maybe half that. Agree that the lack of revenue numbers is telling.

    Elliot,

You can’t put pictures of girls that look like that up on your site. My wife will never let me go to the Domain conferences if she sees that. I told her the people from the broker and registrars all looked like Patrick

    @ Shane

Your wife doesn’t visit my blog very often, so I think you’re in the clear.

Traffic and rev double since .xxx extension ???

That doesnt even make sense, in fact if youre not going to give out rev numbers youd just be better to say traffic is higher. So the potential .xxx extension buyers view porn as much as people who just visit for porn, my head hurts at how stupid someone can handle a 7 figure name sale.

I agree with above no number=speaks volumes.

Definitely one of the best names in the world for porn. However I the price is a little steep at the Moniker auction at 5 Million start.

Why did they choose such a high reserve. I noticed DownloadPornos.com has a reserve of 10,000 and in my opinion this name is better since I feel most people would type this in before typing in XXX.com.

    What did Porn.com go for?

this domain makes no sense, could never make a business out of it. Yes parking or rev share for the type in traffic, but good luck.

@ Shane, glad you said something about the pic, because from speaking with Bari on the phone the other day when she was all brass tacks and moving on to the next caller, I thought she was a middle-aged New Yorker of the Joan Rivers/Larry King variety, and here she looks like a young preppy valley girl.

@Louise, sounds like a back handed compliment LOL

Hi, youre a pretty girl, your voice though, 70-80 yrold jewish new yorker heehee

I have known Bari for some time (through emails), but never seen a pic of her. I always thought she was an older lady too, not this young.

    @ Mohit

    “I mailed you people twice.”

If you mean that you emailed Name.com, I would file a support ticket with them instead of sending an email. I do not work for them.

the comment wasn’t remotely offensive – your picture choice was ridiculous – get a clue, please.

      @ Michael Carter

The beauty of my blog is that I can post whatever picture I choose.

The reason I found your comment offensive and deleted it was that it was an undeserved cheap shot about the photo, and I am not going to allow garbage like that, especially when it has nothing to do with the post.

At least the other comments about the picture were good-natured.

Lol he never said she was doing any xxx videos, he just had a pic of her due to Bari working at moniker.

    July 21st, 2010 at 10:29 am

      Elliot

      @ Joe

      For those interested,

Michael’s comment was “is the press photo provided by moniker? how refreshingly unprofessional – i hate the airbrushed glamour shots – is this the new new wave of publicity photos: blackberry and a corona? nice touch.”

Since I chose the photo and it had nothing to do with Moniker, I didn’t feel that Moniker or Bari should take heat for it. I don’t like douchey and/or underhanded comments. Unfortunately, since it’s my blog, I am the judge, jury, and comment deleter when necessary.

    Joe Slabaugh

    @ Mr silver

I did read the comments before. I did also not think it was some glamour shot as he said.

Btw I am not a noob to this industry, I am a former dnf mod and now mainly focus on youtube.

    @ Joe

I didn’t want Moniker or Bari to take flack for the picture I used, and I didn’t want to deviate from the topic. Anyway, picture gone and back on topic :)

BTW, I think you were mr deleted on dnforum if I am not mistaken.

Elliot, answer to no one, it was just a pic, youre too nice.
