Additional Hong Kong Domains for Sale

Over the last month or so, I’ve sold two Hong Kong geographic domain names, WanChai.com and KwunTong.com, and I still have a few other domain names remaining. Instead of creating individual posts for each, I am going to save time by listing them for sale here.

Judging by the 2 emails and DNForum private message I received in the week after selling WanChai.com in which the writers told me they wish they bought it first, you should probably be quick if you would like to purchase one or more of the names below. If all three are of interest, I would consider an offer for the three domain names. Post “sold” in the comment section of the blog if you’re interested.

Examples are Tin Hau Festival, Tai P’ing Ch’ing Ch’iao and basin meal.”

  1. Elliot,

Am I correct to assume that any City (no matter where the city is located…Asia, Europe etc) registered as a .com is a good move?

  2. Obviously, these are great GEO names. And judging solely on the populations of these cities (since I have no other knowledge of these areas), the prices are CHEAP.

However, my trouble, and the only reason I won’t buy them, is that I am not sure how you go about developing and/or monetizing these names unless you have intimate knowledge of the area, speak Mandarin, and have a sense for what the people of those cities want from your website.

My guess, is that what they want is much different that what the people of Chicago for instance, want from Chicago.com.

    Thoughts?

IMO, the development could be geared towards Americans or other English-speakers who are planning a visit to Hong Kong and don’t know where to stay or visit – or to an English speaker who might be looking to move to Hong Kong.

  3. Elliot, I agree with you. Targeting the site to expats and foreigners probably is your best bet.

I live in Panama and own a lot of cityname.com’s for this country and I run into the same problems. Targeting the local population is useless and worthless (in terms of profit). But targeting Expats and visitors is lucrative.

Relocation services is the most profitable way to monetize these types of sites. Those leads pay out big time!

You should offer a membershil to domain investors to learn how to sell like you do – similar to your dogwalker.com membership. I would be interested on learning more. I’m sure it is fun to make a sale. What you think?

  5. @ Jason

I’d rather do it free here… I try to give as much information as possible… I’ve written about some end user sales here.

Most of my bigger sales are to other domain investors, and I believe the key is buying strongly searched domain names at great prices and selling them for fair prices.

  6. Have to agree great names for targeting those who are travelling. Fantastic possibilities.

Also interesting to note that 灣仔.com was registered 3 years before WanChai.com.
