Bought for $250k, BitcoinWallet.com is Launched

In February, Niko Younts reported that he sold the BitcoinWallet.com domain name for $250,000. The story about the domain flip was pretty remarkable, and I think it’s worth a read if you haven’t done so already. I received a follow up email from Niko this evening, and it looks like BitcoinWallet.com was just launched as a new business.

You can visit the About Us page on BitcoinWallet.com to learn more about the company and its founders:

“BitcoinWallet.com was founded by Price Givens and Alex Charfen with the vision of making bitcoin easier to use. Mr. Charfen and Mr. Givens started their first business together managing customer funds in 1993 while attending California State University.

In the years since, Mr. Charfen and Mr. Givens have collectively acted as officers of public and private businesses with revenues exceeding $1 billion.”

Based on what the company is doing, BitcoinWallet.com was obviously an important acquisition for the company. An exact match domain name like this gives the new brand some level of authority, which is important in this type of crowded marketplace. I think the domain name gives them a leg up, and that doesn’t consider the added free publicity the founders received after the $250k acquisition was reported in a variety of publications.

Good luck to the company.

  1. The former owner of bitcoins.com must be feeling bad letting his premium domain go for peanuts. It is like comparing the difference between Yahoo’s Summly app purchase versus Facebook’s multibillion dollar sale of WhatsApp.com

  2. Selling domainname BTCPOKER.org for 5 BTC or more. Send email skinnkavajen at gmail.com if you are interested. No bids under 5 BTC accepted.

  3. I’ve tried reg:

“You selected a Premium User name which is available for 0.4 btc plus 0.04 btc per year.”

“You selected a Premium User name which is available for 1 btc plus 0.1 btc per year.”

  4. BitcoinWallet.com is a good clean site and the sub domain idea also adds a social style interface to the site too.
I think this site is going places.

As Bitcoiner is a term for a bitcoin enthusiast, we have a comparable in our portfolio; BitcoinerWallet.com
