Moniker: $5.99 .com Sale

No matter where you buy domain names these days, it seems like the price of hand registered names is generally from $8-12/year, depending on your domain registrar. Many companies offer significantly reduced rates (like Go Daddy’s advertised $2.95 price), but there are generally quantity limitations.

When I visited Moniker today, I saw a large banner on the home page announcing a special price on newly registered .com domain names. The company is charging $5.99/year for hand registered .coms. From the looks of it, there are no quantity limitations, and the company has the bulk register link in the banner.

The offer is not valid for transfers or renewals, and it’s only good for the first year. The banner says the offer will expire on September 21, 2012, so you have about a week to take advantage of the offer.

If you know of any other special deals on hand registrations (without quantity limitations or other purchases that are required, feel free to share them here.

  1. mebbe you should put this in a personal note to mike mann. i rarely hand register more than 5 domains at a time. and for anyone that’s not aware of this… MONIKER SUCKS. just my opinion… other opinions may differ.

  2. They figure they can auction off a few next year.

If they were free, I would not register any with them. I feel they are no longer customer friendly.

  3. I have never had any issues with them, but I only have 20+ domains with them. Everything has gone smooth so far! Can you give examples of problems?

What is the connection between Mike Mann and Moniker?

I have 600 names at Moniker, and since I never have any problems, never need any support, so can’t comment further. I have smaller numbers at a dozen other registrars, but Moniker’s back end system, being fast, is my favourite.

Also, their MLS link with Sedo works well.

They recently announced a new phone support mechanism, but I’ve never had to try it, but it sounds effective. My impression is that their new owner Key Systems is attempting to improve Moniker, which I know has had criticism in recent times.

Key Systems is top class, so it certainly appears they are working to innovate and improve Moniker. In fact, I happen to know that Godaddy uses Key Systems as a proxy registrar for .DE domains, so that implies they are good. (I know this directly from DENIC.)

    • MikeTheMann.com get’s millions of Google hits, hahah It’s not his real name, just a pseudo. Sorry Mike, who ever you are, you know I’m only kidding. Sorry.

  5. Correction… Whoops, meant to say that Moniker’s premium MLS link with Afternic works well. I have a problem with the Moniker – Sedo MLS, which I’ll be discussing with Sedo soon, which may well be my own fault.
