Whoisology Running Survey

As you probably know by now, I appreciate it when companies reach out to clients and prospective clients to get their feedback in order to improve and build products that are of interest. Asking users and potential users for feedback is a great way to learn what needs to be improved and what can be useful.

Whoisology is a neat tool that offers some good information about domain registrants and domain registrations. Whoisology is operated by the same people who operate NameBio and DomainAgents. One way I like to use Whoisology is to search for the Whois email address on a domain name I want to buy to see if the owner has additional domain names that might be of interest. Sometimes you can get a better deal if you buy more than one domain name from someone.

Whoisology is currently running a product survey, and they are awarding a $400 Amazon gift card to someone who completes the survey. Here are the details contained in an email I received this afternoon:

“The odds of being drawn the winner of the $400 Amazon.com gift certificate are pretty great. By months end we anticipate your chances will be better than 1:500 odds!

We will be drawing the winner Monday, June 2nd. Watch your email! You will have 48hrs to claim your prize before we draw another name!”

To be eligible for the drawing, you need to complete the survey. If you’re interested, it shouldn’t take long to complete.

  1. Is this better than checking whois for the owner of a domain name, so i don’t keep getting a failure notice on my e-mails?

    • Thanks, i was just wondering if the information on whoisology is more up to date then what i get at times from whois.
I don’t know about you, but i get a lot of e-mails sent back [failure notice] from out of date information on whois.
I’m using one of your letter’s by the way, that you shared here on your blog awhile back, with a few tweaks of my own.
Maybe if i would have left it alone. i wouldn’t get the failure notices…lol.
      Thanks Elliot.

    • It’s not something we could do unfortunately.

But if you do hit a bad email, you check the archives to see if there is a different email address for the user. Right now there is the current database and 2 quarterly archives, there will be a new update released in a day or two. (archives are listed on the left side of each domain page)

You can also look for other domains owned by the same person with different email addresses. For example, you can check other domains listed at same address or with the same phone number and look for a more current email address.

  2. I believe Whoisology is under Beta Testing.
Anyhow, I did place a whois to myself and the results were inaccurate.
Shows domains I never own, others I sold long time ago and others I let them expire.

    • Hi George,

The data on Whoisology isn’t live. The amount of data we process is massive so it’s not an option at the moment.

We do state that the data isn’t live on the site, but will be clarifying this on the domain pages in the upcoming release.

It’s best to think of Whoisology as an archive and research tool, not a regular whois lookup.

    • Thank you for your response and help.

I’ll use Whoisology as indicated and making sure I’ve my glasses on…
