ABG Packaging Corp. Files UDRP on ABG.com

ABG.com UDRP

According to the World Intellectual Property (WIPO) website, a UDRP has been filed on the three letter ABG.com domain name. The complainant in this case is a company called ABG Packaging Corp. The case is WIPO Case D2015-1751.

ABG.com is currently registered to a company called CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. I am not sure if CSC owns ABG.com on its own or if it owns the domain name on behalf of a client. At the time of publication, ABG.com does not resolve to any website. The domain name has a creation date of May 15, 2000, although it had likely been registered before that date.

The domain name had been listed for sale for quite some time via Igloo.com domain brokerage. I don’t see an asking price, so I am not sure what they were asking for it. ABG.com was also listed for sale in the 2011 Snapnames / Moniker DomainFest auction with a reserve price of $250,000 – $500,000. I do not see a record of the domain name selling at auction, and I do not see any historical sales data for the domain name in NameBio’s sale database.

I will be following this UDRP intently. In my opinion, a valuable three letter .com domain name like this that can be an acronym for many things should not be able to be poached via the UDRP system.

Elliot, it’s this sort of thing that is a complete abuse of the system. On the face of it, there is no issue and as someone with LLL’s, it’s always scary to watch some freaking company think they own these domain names. Better to develop them in a niche, fire up a LLC around it and protect it that way.

The trouble is that development means more work, and it can also lessen the chance of receiving an inquiry that leads to a sale.

I’ve checked and it looks that one of the previous owners of ABG.com, before the name went under privacy, was Oversee Domain Management, LLC, maybe they still own it.
The domain has been online at least since 1997 and at that time it was owned by Audio Broadcast Group, Inc., a company based in Grand Rapids, MI.

The domain was parked up until the UDRP was filed, or pretty close to it. If those links matched the trademark below then…
